  • someone to make a panhard drop bracket,3rd gen

    Hey fellas.
Anyone on here that could knock up a panhard drop bracket for my 3rd gen??
need it so it can handle 2.5'' to 3'' of lift
been round to the local engineerin firms an none of them seem to wana make one up or make my pan hard rod adjustable

or better again does anyone have an adjustable panhard rod for sale for a 3rd gen??or know where i could get one??

    thanks
    dara

mines 2nd gen but basically the same - panhard rods easy, cut it and weld in a suitable size bolt (high tensile) and weld a nut to the other end. a second nut can be used as a lock nut. remember to measure it and shorten the panhard rod before adding the bolt or it'll be too long.

the drop bracket is also basic fabrication.

i did the whole lot on a sat morning.

use the pic to show the local fabricator so he has an idea of what you want.

if you want better pics just ask - that ones a bit blurry.

i showed them a pic of a drop bracket but none of them wanted to do it
and the 3rd gen drop bracket is different to the 2nd gen one
the drop bracket welds onto the outside of the panhard bracket itself
as well as the bolt goin through the original hole an the lower bolt for the panhard rod.

its an easier job if its weld on, no holes to line up and drill.

i dont think much of the fabricators if they cant do a simple job like that, either that or they don't like lying on the ground.

best of luck - id be looking for a different fabricator. the cost of an adjustable panhard rod from a retailer is probably the same as the whole job from a fab shop.

Hey Vince. I had one of those knocked up using that very same drawing. Haven't fitted it yet. when i looked, it seemed that i would have to drill a hole in the chassis bracket to line up with the top hole in the drop bracket. I hadn't read anything about this before. Do some chassis have that hole already, and others not?.....Any comments, please.....Cheers....Mick.

I'm pretty sure the hole is already in the chassis for the top hole.

It wasn't on mine (2nd gen LN130 2.4) but it's easy enough to DIY.

The only hole along that side of the bracket on mine is a couple of inches higher up. Just about visible in the pic.....Cheers....Mick.

top hole has to be drilled on the chassis bracket. i did mine with 2 bolts about 40mm apart with a plate as a washer on the chassis side to spread the load.

Ah yes, thats the one I was thinking of.

You'll need to get your drill out then!

i could actually make the bracket myself if i had access to a bender to bend the sides up...the 3rd gen one is a piece of #### to make up

its not that they couldn make it,i dont even need them to fit it but all i keep gettin is i dont have the time for a small job or im too busy

this is the 3rd gen one

Look on-line for steel suppliers (Metals4U is one) and look for steel channel or 'U' section.
You'll need to measure the width and height of the 'U' part that you need to fit in the chassis bracket.
There will probably be a minimum length order, but if you make a few you'll get your money back plus a little extra.
                            *************************
EDIT: Is that definitely a 3rd gen panhard rod drop bracket?
It looks like it wouldn't do a lot to me and is relying on one bolt to be tight enough to hold it in place plus preventing lateral body shift??

My 3rd gen isn't here at the moment so I can't check, but I'm sure the drop bracket would be the same style as the 2nd gen.
