in some ways i agree - i ran another site and we decided to stop charging for sale ads because members were missing out as people were advertising elsewhere - ok VW clubs are everywhere and surfs is a little more unique - but i for one would rather pay ebay and have a much much wider audience than here - a lot of people find forums after purchasing a vehicle

also parts may be suitable for other vehicles too, so why pay to advertise here and then pay again for the bay.. when lots of other sites are free

Its purely financial, would love everything to be free, but it ain't happening while we (Nigel) has to pay for software and webspace. I know lots of forum owners who are in the IT game and get freebies or discounts for their forums, we don't. Who remembers all the moaning a few years ago about a slow, often crashing forum, the only way to fix it with this many members and traffic is to spend more money.

Enough people advertise trucks on here, and not many don't sell, the amount of sold truck speaks for how well it works, you only have to look on the for sale forum.

Think you made a mistake there bud, advertising costs are £6.50, not £506.50....

its not a case of educating pork, i approached various suppliers and set up deals and advertising costs for them plus rebates on all insurance deals etc pretty much paid for the site

bringing in suppliers to sponsor etc worked well - to the tune of 8k at the end of the first year, we managed to cancel all for sale advert costs and brought membership DOWN from £20 per year to £10 per year

which then saw an increase in paid members, start of first year was about 300, we made the changes and end of year 2 had nearly a thousand - we also then added a donate button so people could donate after they had sold something or got good advice etc that started bringing in more as people were more keen

the other way to save is to not allowing hosting on site, make it ll external, this saves server space which in turn saves cost..

anyway - i paid up as soon as i joined as mentioned above i know about costs..

but i dont run this site and dont want to, was just giving a different opinion on how things 'could' be different

when i was a gamer with a clan and game servers with forums
i rented a whole server out and made sure i could sub rent space out
it saved money by putting it all in one place and the space left was rented out to other gameing clans at better rates than they was paying
and i still had 14 slots left
i dare say if it was not for diesrea and tripleplay pulling the plug it would have started to earn money but the street artist and the dj (diesrea tripleplay) taking the whole usa side off of us it would have been still running

google them iam sure the posh w@nkas will still be painting and being a post dj toff boolicks

What a joke.....it costs less than £6.50 a year to have a .co.uk domain and webhosting and this forum wants £6.50 for a forum member of which is basically a FAN site just to make a post to sell their vehicle? ....whatever.

Wheres the "delete my account" button?
Oh please don't go "Delete this account" (If that really is your name). We need strong minded individuals like you to keep us all on a straight course and show us all the error of our ways. .........We will all miss you terribly!
