3rd Gen With Leaf Springs?

Saw what I'm certain was a 3rd gen Surf in Skibberreen the other day. No Toyota, Hilux or Surf badges that I could see, but I'm sure it was a Surf. But it had leafs on the back. I was looking from across the road, and couldn't see springs, so my eye wandered to under the car - pretty sure I saw leaf springs.

Am I mistaken?

I'll be back in the area next week, so if I see it again, I'll take a sneaky pic.

never heard of a 3rd gen on rear leaf springs. Might have been a mitsubishi challenger - they lok very much like a surf but are based on teh L200 pickup with an estate bodyshell and do have rear leaf springs.

I'm sure I remember seeing a build thread where someone got one, put unimog style portal axles on it front and back and mounted it on leaf springs....

But there is no factory option of such thing that I am aware!

Pretty sure it wasn't a Challenger/Pajero Sport/Shogun Sport. I like them too, and they do look similar at a glance, but I'd bet money it was a Surf. Raging I didn't take a quick snap with the phone. I'll be cruising Skibberreen next week till I find it again. But what if he was just passing through? I may never know the truth... Gaaah...

There's a Nissan that's the spit of a Surf, but I can't remember the model off hand... may have leafies. There's one near me, I'll try to take some pics....
