8mm would be perfect for a bash plate 6mm may also suffice

            Not cheap is it?!
            £97 plus VAT plus p&p i'd imagine for a 750mm square of 6mm
Unless you're serious about weight saving AND off road ability, then i'd just cloak what you've got for £30 with the 2mm stuff.

              Aluminium Diamond Plate

Andy, thanks for that, will try them in the morning,
John, you could be right about the price and the solution, maybe use thin diamond plate shaped to fit over the original bash plate

              Thanks all,Alan

                Eh? £128 for 2000mm x 1000mm x 6mm. That builds a few bash plates! Or £46 for same size piece of 2mm.

Thats not too bad really. The 2mm stuff would make a lot of scuff panels!

Sorry, I was looking at the "precut" price list. Is that 128 plus VAT plus delivery?

either way its a lot cheaper. depends how much you like and can use chequerplate I suppose....

How hard would it be to weld aluminium?

Very! you need a special high powered tig welder.

Not hard at all you would just need an AC/DC Tig welder and its fairly easy.

                              Aluminium Diamond Plate

Well I tried just about every lead you lot came up with.Sadly most were too expensive for an old git like me to outlay.
Just happened to call at the local scrap merchant on the way home and I now have a 1" deep tray,2ft square,a 1" deep tray,2ft6" square,a 1" deep tray44"by27" in dull stainless, and two sheets of shiny stainless about 30" square to play with. One is almost mirror finish but one or two marks. One has a load of holes predrilled in it,will polish up with t.cut or similar. The trays I will keep for doing oil changes and the like, the two pieces of flat stainless I will try and cover the bash plate with, and get it shaped locally.Got the lot for forty quid,Proper job,as they say.Again thanks to all for help and advice,Alan

80 grit thin flap wheel on a drill would be the most economic way for you to shine stainless, well done on your find.
