  • Lc's and 3rd gen Surfs

    Hey guys

    Quick question
Do 90 series landcruisers lwb share alot of the same parts as the 3rd gen surf???ie engine, turbo, injector pump,ps pump, alt, starters, diffs, prop and half shafts, exhausts, shocks, an even auto boxes etc

    thanks

Transer case is different, so is the steering rack, 'cruisers have rear discs instead of drums but the rest is the 'mostly' same.

There are small differences, like the EGR system on early 3rd Gens, and adjustable or suspension on different models, but you'll get away with most things.

cool...jus makes it easier to find parts if i ever need them there isnt many 3rd gens over this way for breakin

could an lc manual box an tcase fit an work on a surf?
obviously it'll bolt up to the engine but would it mount on the cross member on the surf??an wirin to make the reverse lights on the manual box wouldnt be a prob but wat about sensors on the tcase do you no??

A fair few 90 series had rear E lockers from the factory didn't they?

I wonder if a rear axle swap would be an easy way up upgrading to Elocker and disks in one swoop...
          More Lift.
          More Tyres.
          More Engine.

i too was wonderin about this too..i noticed some of them had E lockers...think the lc rear axle is a bit wider ...but rear locker would be sweet to replace the lsd

I looked it up last night on the EPC.

                  - the none locking Landcruiser 90 rear axle casing is the same part number as ours

So it should just bolt on...

Obviously there is some kind of diff lock ECU, and I am not sure about brake balanceing if you just swap the drums for disks...

ya wirin in a diff lock ecu could be the only major prob...brake balaceing could be sorted easily if there was a prob the master cylinder off the lc could be used an it'd sort it.
