      1. Mechanical protection of the cables, that's why I suggested boxing them in seperately
      2. Cable support
      3. I can't be sure, but it doesn't appear you have main equipotential bonding to gas/ water mains
I had noticed the support thing, but the council spark assured me it was OK.

There is a Green earth wire connected to the main earth just to the right of the incomer fuses, that's connected to the water and gas pipework in various places. It appears to be common to the 4 houses too.

I asked them to do some plastering when we fixed the staircase. They sent someone with a catapult and a bucket of cement.

I wouldn't ask them into the house to fix anything; they're totally useless.

My initial thoughts on your cupboard. If you intend to stud the wall out and recess the tele into it, have you considered closing off the top part of the cupboard with short double doors , open up the bottom with shelves, then mount the television on an angle bracket so under normal circumstances the upper cupboard is hidden by the tele but can be moved out the way when access is required to the electrics,
the shelves can be used for holding dvd player, video player, games machine etc the extra space created by the studding could house all the cabling to create a neat finish. The drawback with this is the possibillity that the tele might be to high though it could be angled for comfortable viewing.

looks a lot better with the door shut. That sparky is well ruff, cables diagonally to boxes always looks pants.
just tidy , fill the holes and paint it.

                Then shut the door !!!!!!!!

Fit a false back to the left hand shelves with the fuse box behind it (with an access panel) and then put shelving in the upper part of both the left and right hand side of the chimney breast. If you want to come over all changing rooms you could paint the chimney breast a contrasting colour to the rest of the room.
The shelving in the upper part will require glasses and and a selection of single malts.

We had a similar issue, though our box is at the bottom rather than the top. I'll photograph my solution when I get home.

This is what I did. The chimney breast wall is built out too, to suit the plasma telly you see the edge of. The leccy box is bottom left. The cables are unsupported though.

I'd go one of two ways with that.

Either hide the door, or copy Apache
