Can't really add much, other than you only know the real loss when you are going through it yourself... we lost a cat to a busy road right outside our house, I had to scrape up the remains at 11 pm when we found him after realising he wasn't there for his food.... Seeing his mutilated body was pretty distressing to say the least. Better yours went peacefully.
He had a good life. Celebrate it.
