"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life gifts me with a piece of their heart. If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are."

i understand what your saying
i have always had dogs has well has cats all of with live over 16 years my cat is 19 years old
i had dog after dog untill i had spike
he was more than just a dog
he had his way bit people at will he could even kick people out the truck if they had the front seat
he asked for things from ice cream to tuna
he had different barks for different things
i could talk to him in a way that only me and the dog could under stand
people thought i was mad but i could get him to do almost anything
the only thing he did not like was been grounded
that was the only way to get him to stop being a tw@t
he was a hand full i was in court over him a few times
he was more than just a dog to me theres never going to be any dog replace him and its stoped me getting any more pets its too hurtfull when they go
There really isn't very much I can add to what has been said. It crushes you every time you lose a pet, yet we still have them, enjoy them while they're here and cry for them when they leave us. My condolences.
As everyone's said mate, so sorry for ya, dogs are more than just pet's, more like a family member, aqs you say he had a good few years in a loveing home, many dont even get that,
