  • Accidents will happen!

I was reading in another thread about leaving sandwiches behind and it reminded me of an 'incident'

I was driving along the Upper Richmond Road in Putney, London. Just gone through the traffic lights on way to Wandsworth, mid-morning traffic and relatively slow as usual. Up ahead is a pedestrian crossing, people crossing and cars ahead of me having to stop and (being in a queue) we on a stop start as per usual.

I'm hungry! So I carefully takes out one of my sandwiches, in this case, corn beef and branston pickle and am munching my way through sandwich. Am just on second half (being Southern, am refined enough to cut sarny in half ) when guy in car behind decides to wave to his Mother-in-law, though why one should want to do so is unclear .... perhaps he was in a very good mood; anyway, he forgets what he is doing, waving away, and forgets to look ahead and BANG! puts a dent into my nice minivan.

We weren't going fast enough to create a massive amount of damage but what did happen is that at the moment of impact I was just about to take another bite only said sandwich was now being licked by the rear glass window and I feel it only right to say, I checked to see if any fingers had been eaten!

Apologies were accepted and I was treated to a tea and bacon & egg sandwich in Builders cafe ... I guess the real villain of the peace is of course, Mother-in-law, but I suspect others will have their own interpretation.... to this day I am very wary of what is going on between each bite

Are you suggesting that certain members of the community from Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme and north Staffordshire/south Cheshire are somewhat uncultured, knuckle-dragging oafs?!

    (Ouch, my knuckles are sore)

A few days ago I was out walking the dog on the main road through the village and approached the zebra crossing as a line of cars were coming along the road. I stopped at the crossing and waited for the first car to stop. Which he did. As I was going to set off walking, acknowledging the driver, I realised the car behind him was still travelling at some speed. I didnt step out and the second car ran into the back of the first. The first car a Focus S-Max had not much damage but the Nissan Primera was well crunched. After giving my name and address as a witness the dog and I proceeded on our walk with a good story to tell the wife.

Sandwiches to be cut diagonally. Then the first bite fits better into the mouth, starting at one of the halved corners.
