  • wahay.... mobile traffic jam alert.........

I know its not the sharabang section but what the heck.....

Just got back from leicester after picking up our new tin snail....
Bargain of the century as the model we got, although a 1997, dealers want £2500 for.
Fleabayed ours for £1850 with 2 awnings and shed loads of extras.

Me new removable towbar performed admirably after we had a trip to halfrauds, nice man we brought the van from drove me there and back, as a normal towball will not except an Alko Hitch.
Needs longer neck and to be set further out from the back plate on my removable plate as they clash when you turn corners....... skanked one side of the handle but no big.... it'll buff out....
Even added an extra ali spacer for a little more clearance.....
And even me lights worked first time.....

No major over heating even on the long hills just a slight rise in temp gauge which settled down once we got roling on the flat..........

Only niggle we had was half way home around stratford, where there was lots of traffic, was once we got rolling again the gearbox would not change up to top and lock the TC until we reached nearly 60mph when normally it kicks in spot on 50mph.......
Was as though the ect button was on...... any ideas why this happened ??????

Going to get atf cooler fitted soon so maybe that will help keep the gearbox cooler ????

Mrs has been cleaning it already and only been home 1/2 hour......
    Remember arrows are silent.....................
Don't forget to tell everyone its indestructable as seen on top gear.......

Sorry mate but on a factory temp gauge I would be very concerned by that.
Hopefully it is just crap fluid in the gearbox.

Fit a stand alone cooler for the transmission, you don't need to use the factory one that's built into the main rad, it'll keep the coolant temperature down as well as there won't be boiling ATF flowing through it.
The cooler doesn't need to be huge, a 15 row cooler will be fine.
Ignore what has been said in the past about fitting the extra cooler before the main rad cooler, thats pointless! ATF fluid gets hotter than engine coolant and needs all the cooling it can get. Your transmission will last much longer too.

p.s. as yer man said above, fit an after market temp gauge, the standard one only has two positions, cold and boiling!

          http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/tempgauge.htm

Normal running temp is anywhere between 80 and 90 degrees.

          ATF hoses are 10mm I.D.
