Yep, I live about 6 miles outside of Newcastle and my Surf looks very similar to yours (it doesn't have the nice bonnet ornament though)!

I'm about 10 minutes south of Darlington. I sold my 410bhp Impreza to a guy in Trimdon Village by the name of Alan. It was a silver one with STi decals, you may have seen or at least heard it.

There is a silver one at the top of the road about 100 yards from my house. It's got all the decals on it so might be the same one. You can usually hear it before you see it mind. lol
