engine coolant drain plug

im goin changin the coolant in the surf tomorrow
an was jus wonderin if anyone knew where the drain plug on the block was for the coolant??or is it a case of wip the thermostat out??
on a 1kz-te engine

its worth changeing the stat mate if you ahvent already done it pull off the bottom hose. refill it with clean water let it run for a bitt and drain it all again. then put 5ltrs of coolent in and top up with water, it takes about 10ltrs of fluid in total. Make sure you fill it slowley. Sorry mate not teeching you to suck eggs i am sure you know how

Errr i thought you wern't supposed to use water, just the ready mix coolant?
Only use a little water for topping up?

I just drain mine from the plug at the bottom of the rad cos its the lowest point anyway so whatever is in the block will end up there.

the thermostat should keep a lot of it in the block...wen you drain from the rad its only wat can flow out of the top rad pipe from the block that come out the rad drain plug

I haven't looked, but I suspect it will be on the side under the manifold somewhere, it'll look similar to a domestic radiator drain cock.

Yes your right, when i was looking for the temp sender last month & you told me where to look i came across the drain plug & it's where you just said it would be.

you dont run it for long with just water its just to help flush the system, then drain all out and as i said put the 5lts of coolant in and top with water

done the coolant today...some amount of crap came out wen i flushed it wit the hose!! all nice clean stuff now tho

and bushy an si you two were rite about the block drain plug its under the inlet on the passenger side a 10mm gold coloured bolt its on the oil cooler housing jus under the filter an to the front of the starter motor...its a pain in the behind to get to tho lol

if you use toyota ready mixed coolant, do not add water, if you use halfords crap then mix it with what you like, I never use the stuff I do,nt think toyotas like it hence gasket and pipe problems. I've used the ready mixed red coolant in all my toyotas and never ever had a coolant related problem except a stone hole in a rad.
