  • Insurance just doubled

Rang my insurers today, as the policy expires mid March. He cheerfully said that the premium had risen from £340 to £670.... Still full no claims and clean license. Apparently they dont deal with the company that underwritten the previous policy and that was that and I have to stump up the dough.

    I am 50 and its a 95 plate KZN 185

What are you guys paying and who with?

Thing is, all these companies change from year to year. I usually use Gocompare and Meerkat and the likes...they'll come up with whoever is cheapest, then you phone them up and confirm they can insure an import, and hassle them down a bit.
I'm just about due to renew, so no doubt I'll have to change due to my current insurer (It's4Me by Swinton) having doubled their prices from last year...Was about £270 for a 40 yr old, full no claims etc last year.

Thing is, the Hilux Surf isnt listed on any of these compare or any other online sites.

We just did ours and went around the houses several times. In the end AF came up cheapest about £500 for a 3.0 2nd gen.
The sites don't show 3.0 Diesel Autos at all, so we hasd to search for 2.4 Petrol Hilux/5 door estate, then the "model type" has an option for Surf/4 runner.
Get the quote, then phone em up to tell em its not a 2.4, nor petrol, nor manual.
They then laugh, add £200 to the bill and put the phone down on you.

Honestly, 1 company said "you're not the type of business our company wants to pursue"
                Fecking Winkers. Its unbelieveable.
                Good luck!

Neil,Initially I was livid when Auto Trader told me they would renew my policy for me as they had my card details on file. When I went on Gocompare,to be truthful I couldnt believe that it could go down so much,so I rang Sureterm on the number given, 0845 20 20 230 fully expecting to be told it was a mistake and the cost would be dearer,
and they actually said it would be slightly cheaper than the quote on the net
and they are part of Liverpool Victoria.

The booklet they sent me says

Specialist Vehicle Insurance on the front and at the bottom

Highway, part of L.V. but the letterhead was Sureterm Direct. The number as above

Both my vehciles are on highway policies, through different brokers because they could get differnet discounts at the time.

Try A Plane, Chris Knott, Noel Dazley, Sureterm, Adrian Flux (but read every detail carefully because they make mistakes like a three year old).

These are generally the cheaper ones.

This year the Surf is through A Plan, and the Mondeo is through Chris Knott. Both are on Highway policies (you'd have thought they'd give me a loyalty bonus). Most amusing thing is mothers Fiat has just been renewaled (75% increase for no reason) with LV (they were cheapest, and even dropped it £16 when I phoned to complain about the renewal price), and LV own Highway.
                    Gone from 4x4 to 1x2

Someone once mentioned lifesure on here for insurance, i've been with them since i bought my surf in 2008.

My insurance fully comp is £360 for a 41 year old with 9 years no claims. It's up for renewal in May so might be singing a different tune then depending on what they say but i'll cross that bridge when i get there lol.

It's definitely worth ringing up-Churchill wanted £670something for mine, but when I rang them up (I'm already a policyholder anyway) it suddenly dropped by £275.
