  • Gen 3 interior rattle and squeaks

    I have very recently replaced my 1992 2nd gen with a 1996 3rd gen.

I have noticed that Toyota have fixed some of the minor problems with the 2nd gen interior, however. My 2nd gen being 19 years old did not creak, rattle or squeak one little bit.

So why does the newer model, only 15 years old, and of very similar mileage sound like its infested with mice and rattle snakes.

Does anybody else suffer from the same problem?

Nope, mines as quiet as a quiet thing with slippers on!

Looks like its just me then. I wonder whats happened to my truck

The source is very hard to locate as it seems to be every where.

Not just you. Mine rattles from the rear seat catches. OK when you have passengers in the back but noisy if empty.

              afternoon all

mine had a couple of rattles in the back of the truck

              1. rear seat catches but a bit of tape wrapped around the receiver sorted that
              2. rear spare wheel carrier, a clean out and new grease in the access holes sorted that as well

now as quiet as a quiet thing with slippers on in a library

Even the rubbers on the drivers door seals squeak.

I shall have to look into the seats and spare wheel carrier.

Mine rattle here too - what bit is the "Receiver"?

Also the little plastic shrouds around the door pins rattle when the speakers are tasked with decent volume levels. I'd be temped to put some clear sealant under them but with my cack-handedness, fear it'll end up like a 4-year old's Airfix model.

                    jimster

the seat received is the loop that the catch on the rear seat back fits into.

If you fold the rear seat back down you will see these sticking out from teh rear wheel trim - they look like u-bolts with the ends vanishing into the wheel well trim.

I just wrapped a bit of duck tape around each of the u-bolt "legs" (apologies for the crap description - it's easier to do that describe) and job done - no rattle

                    hope this helps

                      Heres a funny one

I noticed an odd clicking noise coming from my dash a few weeks ago when I was going down the road. Nothing too serious, but enough to annoy me. Spent 1/2 an hour whilst driving smacking my hand against the top and sides of the dash to stop it. Nothing. I even has my Mrs trying to identify where it was coming from. Gave up.
Went to go and clean the truck the other day and discovered where the noise had been coming from.
The tax disc holder adhesive was sticking and then coming away again when i wiped over it. That was the noise. Its one of those large square RAC ones thats a bit too big anyway. Made me laugh.

The only thing that rattles in my truck are the tools in the back and most of those are in plastic boxes, after it was repaired and had nothing in it, except for the noise of the engine, (that diesel rattle though muted) it was almost as quiet as the soarer, the noisiest thing I find is the heating blower motor at full chat.

Mine has had a rattle coming from somehwere at the back since I got it - tried a few times to find it and gave up - gone now, thanks to this thread - would never have thought about the rear wheel carrier being the culprit and a wee bit grease sorting it. Cheers.
