GoPro

I have a GoPro HD camera that I bought from the states. It comes with ALL the mounts you could ever need to secure it to any motor vehicle including motorbikes. You can also buy additional mounts. The 60m waterproof case is shock proof and the cam / case has a 170 degree fisheye lens for a wide field of view. The resolution ranges from small to 1080p. It also captures in 60 fps so you can create slow motion shots by reducing the frame rate / increasing the length.
I usually suck mine to the bonnet or door when we go out or to the inside of the windscreen. Also comes with 3m adhesive mounts.
Battery lasts just under 4 hours on a single charge. If you use a cigarrete lighter charger and a 32gb card you could do a constant recording in HD for around 7 hours.

Although they are a bit more than a tenner, the quality and features are worth it.
