  • Fitting A Flush Rear Foglamp

Is there any specific place that it should be fitted, I.E. nearside or offside?

I don't want to start cutting a hole in the bumper only to find it's in the wrong place. I only ask because if I fit it inboard of the offside reflector on the bumper, it may be partially obscured by the spare wheel cover.

It needs to be offside. Can it to on the wheel or cover?

You can only fit it where the bumper brackets allow anyway.

p.s. Peugeots have theirs in the centre.

Cheers. Unfortunately it will not on the wheel cover.

Thanks Vince, I've already had a look under the bumper and the brackets do dictate where I can fit the foglight. I might pop along to my local MOT garage and ask their advice.

You could remove the reflectors if they are stick on jobbies, relocate them to your towbar, or to your waste bin, and fit your fog lamp roughly where the O/S reflector currently is, as allowed by the bumper brackets.

Unfortunately they are well stuck on and it may cause damage to the paintwork if I remove them. MOT guy at garage says they have to stay anyway as no reflectors are incorporated in my rear light cluster.

They said they would pass it if I located it inboard of the offside reflector.

Thanks, that looks like the position that I'll be fitting mine.

MOT guy said that you have to have reflectors on the back of a vehicle, otherwise it's a test failure. I don't have enough knowledge of such things to argue the case!

Just had a quick 'Google' and found this.

What items are examined in the MOT test?

Lighting Equipment, Stop Lamps, Reflectors, and Direction Indicators

Front and rear position lamps, rear registration plate lamps, rear fog lamps
                        Headlamps
                        Stoplamps
                        Rear reflectors
Direction indicators and hazard warning devices
                        Headlamp aim

So are these reflectors built into the standard rear lights?

I can't remember, I'll have to have a hunt around in the garage to see if I can find them.

                              In general; yes.

                              On a Surf; yes.
