yea that's right Ross it's nothing to do with the mot.Its apolice matter if they deem it dangerous or not.As i had Lucifer pulled by the police anyway and told by them to widen the arches i know that to be true.Some people just think they know it all on ebay and this guy probably does work for dvla but in the call centreOriginally posted by Surfer Ross View PostI don't even think Arch protrusion is taken into account on the MOT these days. You used to have to have the edge of the tyre sitting within the wheel arch when the wheels were straight, I don't think that is the case any more. The tyre will sit proud of the arch when steering in either direction so there is absolutely no point in requiring it to sit within the arch when its straight.
At any rate, the fella is talking out of his a*se.https://www.facebook.com/groups/henpals/

I wish that was true Ross, we could then build and run truggies/crawlers, with tiny bodies and big axles.Originally posted by Surfer Ross View PostI don't even think Arch protrusion is taken into account on the MOT these days. Construction and Use regs are different to MOT rules, technically you can pass an MOT with no wings on, as long as there are no sharp edges.
BUT plod WILL be able to pull you for sticky out wheels under the C & U laws.
The tread that touches the road must be covered. Thats all, If Rich pumps his tyres up so hard that only the center 6" are actually touching tarmac, its technically legal to have narrower arches in a court of law.
But like most things, try and be smart and do it and they'll only find something else to pull you on, its never worth arguing.
Tractors don't need to cover tyres, but are restricted to 30 or 40mph, so its hard to regester a truck as a tractor.4x4toys.co.uk - Keeping you on and off the road...

There is no mention of wheel arches covering tyre tread in the body section. There is another road traffic law (I can't remember which) that states that the tyre tread should not be visible outside the wheel arch when viewed from directly above but it is not part of the MOT and a vehicle cannot be refused an MOT certificate for failing to comply with it.Originally posted by MOT MANUAL
Tyre condition
The reason for failure with respect to tyre wear is:
"The grooves of the tread pattern are not at least 1.6mm throughout a continuous band comprising: the central three-quarters of the breadth of tread around the entire outer circumference of the tyre".
Tyres must be correctly matched with regard to:
* type
* size
* structure
NB. type or structure but not both.
* tyres on the same axle must be of the same structure and size.
Also examined:
* general condition of tyre
* condition of valve.
Tyres fail if they have serious cuts, bulges or other damage.
The wear on the tyre is checked with a tyre tread depth gauge to ensure compliance.
The tyres are examined to ensure that there is no fouling with any part of the vehicle.
Notes: Although under-inflation is not in itself a reason for failure, a brake test may be inadvisable because of possible damage, and it may affect headlamp alignment. The condition of the spare tyre is not part of the MOT.
Wheel condition
* damage
* distortion
* cracks
* distorted bead rim
* securely attached to the vehicle
* no wheel nuts or studs missing.
An externally fitted spare wheel or spare wheel carrier must not be so insecure that it is likely to fall off.
There is no problem from an MOT point of view with Lucifer so long as:
1. The tyres are all the same size.
2. Both tyres on each axle are of the same construction, ie Radial or Crossply but not a mixture of both.
Tell your fella to put that in his pipe and smoke it. MOT tester on his Granny's side.En Ferus Hostis. Be your own man. Follow nobody.

There is loads of stupid little things. If the battery isn't secure, its not an MOT failure, but if the police catch you and check, its an on the spot fine. Tell the guy to STFU, jealousy is a funny thing! He is welcome to buy it and put tiny little tyres on it, if it makes him feel better! But again, he'll look a bellend! First time I saw the truck yesterday by the way, I love it, credit to you.

What absolute twaddle that ebay pratt is waffling. There's a cuffing great monster truck that drives around my way. Pretty sure they'd have nicked by now if it wasn't legal & I'd hate to think how big those tyres are! Having said that, I think the coppers would have trouble getting up to the cab!!
It's only kinky the first time...

Don't worry Rich, I'm 90% sure this bloke is just on a wind up. You get them, like some occasional members on here that come and go. Just sounds like someone that's jealous who wants to pee you off as he is bored. It is Sunday after all.Originally posted by stormforce View Postwhat about tractors aswell
here's what he says
Hey nice truck shame it's illegal to drive in the uk, I work for the dvla and used to m.o.t vehicles for over 2 decades, the maximum legal road size tyre on a registered car, not vehicle is 35 inch
Just thought id let you know to include in auction so potential buyers know and don't get points on their license or even loose it if they have points already ...
i'm now waiting to have the ad pulled now cause of this pr1ck
Also, he spelt lose wrong so he is a muppet and I doubt he works for DVLA.
Just tell him to jog on!Oh Nana, what's my name?
