  • Grease gun....

Picked this up from local battery and tool supplier for £8...... kin cheap i thinks

Greased up me propshafts...... but noticed that there was 2 nipples
one on the cross thing in the middle of the joint that when greased
pumped grease out the ends of the joint.
the other one was on the shaft itself and i connected up and started
to pump when i noticed that the shaft was expanding at the spline
joint..... thats when i stopped, not knowing how much to pump incase
i put too much in an buggered something up.....

So have i done wrong and how much should i pump into my shaft ???

      You wanna rephase that?

If you pump to much in the spline will 'hydrolock' and when the axle bumps over something it will bang as the splines can't move and it will try and push the garbox/engine forwards on their mounts.

It will work the grease out in time, so normally goes away after awhile, quicker with worn splines, longer if they are good and tight.

I normally pump grease till you see the splines just start to move.

Cheers Tony, thought that might be the case as the other week we retracked a small digger and that used grease pumped in to move the
        arm that tightens the tracks.....

Only noticed it move about 1/4" before i stopped so hope its ok as
        going up to derbyshire tonight...

Mind telling me where and who that "local battery and tool supplier" is - I don't live too far from Tewlesbury.

Is that the Halfords jack? Is it any good?.
