Straightening axles

Has anyone ever straightened a bent axle?
I found a guy selling a first gen chassis with both axles.
The front axle tube is bent on one side, I thought maybe I could cut it off and replace with tube, or maybe straighten it.
It would be for off road use mainly.

yep thats the best way - ive done a few, straight cuts or turning the pipe end for a good fit is important to keep it in line, then just glue it together.

slobo if you have access to a press straightent the tube the best you can then weld strenghtherners down the bend [angle iron] because it has been bent it will be weak ,half shafs can be straightented to same way but replace the bearings as folk normally drive on about a mile after they have bent the axle ruining the bearings, was it a front or rear axle that was bent?

It's the front.

Now a really stupid question.......

I can't remember which side the diff is on. If it's on the wrong side, could I turn it upside down?

If you mean flip the axle then yes, if you want 1 forward and 5 reverse gears

I suppose the caliper fixings and steering tie rods would need relocating.

The Toyota axles are too narrow, about 5" narrower than the Jeep ones.
Looks like I'm looking for a Ford.

Maybe. but I've no chance of finding one here.
Because the front axle was bent I was hoping to nick these ones, But he still wants blood for them.
I've made some halfshafts for the Jeep from old Fiat campagnola ones, They seem to be holding up at the moment.
