    No.

They do charge a fee (obviously), but don't take a percentage. Paste the text on here?

no its not saying it now and it did not say it when i listed it
          it says
Congratulations. You've successfully revised your listing.

and not a red notice telling me that ebay will need a percentage because of the value my item has got too

it did not say that to start with?
but i listed it at 1 quid could that be why?
its now at 200 quid and is that now why they want some loot out of it?

You pay a higher listing fee if you set a reserve or high start price.

The final value fees are almost hidden, you can get to see them by going through your account tab and they're in one of the sub menus there. It's a bit sneaky, you usually don't get told how much it is until your monthly invoice comes through.

See here. Took me 5 seconds to find.

Oddly enough, if I owned eBay, I'd run it as a business too, charging people to use it. Personally I dont see the problem. If you dont like it, try selling through the local papers?

Lately when I've been selling stuff I have used Gumtree. It has got me a sale every time and it's free.

My main problem with selling stuff through fleabay these days is the fact that they insist on you accepting payment via PayPal and the extra fees that adds via stealth, especially given that they are both the same company.

The other thing that annoys me is that they seem to have made the site so ridiculously buyer-biased in terms of the transactions (eg inability to leave negative feedback to stupidly awkward buyers)

I generally don't bother selling stuff on there anymore unless there is some specific advantage to me selling something on there. I'd much rather put an ad on a targetted forum (like this one for example!) if I have stuff to sell...
