    so hopfully i will be going to view a surf very soon what is the best way to check all 4 wheel drive and low gearing is working because oviously i cant engage the fronts diff on dry roads and cant just nip of road to test it all???

    Assuming you're looking at a 2nd gen or a council 3rd gen, if the wee 4wd light comes on, it's probably working...

          You can actually switch it on on dry tarmac. Just drive in a straight line and not very far - yards, not miles.
