3rd Gen Intercoolers

Does anyone know what the difference in performance is like ? I am looking to buy a 3rd gen but am wondering how many benefits the intercoolers have ? Do they have better mpg and more power ? Is it a big difference or just marginal ?

They seem to have a bit more power, but are geared differently so at about 80mph you are doing just under 2500rpm,also not much difference in fuel comsumption, best I have got was around 29mpg.

It seems that some have the intercooler and some don't. I would have thought toyota would have stuck to one or the other after a certain date?

with intercooler :

hp = 145 hp @ 3600 rpm
torque=34 kg-m @ 2000 rpm

without intercooler :

hp = 130 hp @ 3600 rpm
torque = 29.5 kg-m @ 2000 rpm

I guess its no different to offering different trim specs (like we all know how reliable they are ) and different size engines etc. You pays your money and you takes your choice.
