  • just finished my starter motor repair

And it was a bloomin' nightmare. The aus site was very helpfull and the pics were great for knowing what to look for. I'm generally not a mechanical person but am very practical at hands on things so if you're like that then I'd say have a crack at it!! The neighbour gave me bit of a hand for an hour (took 5hrs) so suggest you onld do it if you got someone to lend you a hand, took it back out at one point cos had trouble getting the top bolt in. Had to move more components than the aus site said to get it out as I think from the pics mine as a newer or older model??? The top bolt was problematic.. Much easier to get out than expected but getting it back in was the nightmare and ended up cross threading it. Now its only held in by 1 main bolt and a bracket (which isn't in the pics) will have to do until I get another motor and some more time, the repair kit I used was £15 off ebay and its working from the bits I replaced excessive wear was deffinatly the cause of the intermittent starting problem. So the kit from "repairkitsuk" is recommended if your on a budget like myself! Cheers

Also the aus site says to remove the starters power cable and solinoid first but I found it impossible until I got it unbolted and moved it round a bit!!

    Hop this might help someone

5hrs to swap the starter out. Did you use chocolate spanners?

2 cuts, 2 patches of skin that look like I've rubbed them with sandpaper and very red skin... The cold didn't help!!

Chocolate spanners lol. More like 4 hrs but as I'm not a mechanical person and I didn't know where the starter was until today I don't think it was too bad. Wasted an hour taking it back out, deciding to remove other things to make life easier etc I didn't think that was too bad?!? As I said I need a new one ideally but would be confident I could do a swap in 2 hours next time!!

Main thing is you got fixed mate. I am sure you will trim that to 2hrs easily next time.

If it can be broken it can be fixed
