  • Reasonably priced Stainless exhaust?

My exhaust is gradually crumbling into dust at an alarming rate!

I really want to get a turbo back exhaust made up in stainless. I know there was talk of these being available for around the £350 mark?........ I cannot for the life of me find someone that will do this anywhere near that ammount!

I live in Portsmouth and tried somewhere in Basingstoke but they wanted almost £800 for the privilege which was a shock - I only want a 2.5inch system with centre box and slightly different exit route nearer the bumper / rear wheel.

Where have you guys got yours from and how much did it cost?

I dont mind travelling as far as Cardiff or potentially Birmingham - anywhere further than that and it'll cost me a fortune in fuel and time.

Powerflow or Longlife are the normal people to try.

Do you mean turbo back or cat back? That will make a big difference.

If your prepared to travel as far as Brighton, Lee at grove garage would do you a 'powerflow' stainless steel exhaust for I'd say no more than £400. But would be best to ring him for a quote.

"I really want to get a turbo back exhaust made up in stainless".

Just re-read your post & don't know if that would make a difference to the price.

Still worth a phone call though.

You really only need to go from downpipe back. Downpipes tend to last for donkeys. They are usually made of sterner stuff and you dont get condensation dropping out in them after you stop for the day. Its my opinion that doing this bit in stainless is an unnecessary expense. I just recently replaced the downpipe on my Merc after 18 years of service and to be honest it was in fact repairable, It was still a healthy chunk of metal and was just blowing a wee bit at a weld and probably had another 18 years in it.

go on to longlife exhausts, call up the oxford based one, ask to speak to nik or rob

tell them you know me (lawsy of dub club oxford) and see what they will charge

have a look at what they have done on mine

                http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/showthrea...d=1#post689428

£400 for both sides in stainless D

they wanted £299 for a stainless replacement for the standard system, but will discuss options and make up pretty much any style/design that you like

and if you ask about the discounts available through Dub club oxford, you may save the VAT too

Now that is a 'zorst that I really like the look of. What bore pipes were used for it?

The one on my truck is a Powerflow bought by its previous owner, forum member "Kiowa". It was roughly £450 all-in 4 years ago. I've just had the centre hangers welded back on as they snapped off the sides of the centre pipe. Other than that it looks like new all the way along and sounds really nice.

I was thinking of having single pipe either straight exit just below the bumper with similar pipes to Geordie Johns or through the bumper at the rear or just behind the wheel.

Not sure yet still considering what will look best and keep the exhaust nicely tucked away rather than dangling down much like the afterthought of an exhaust the factory one is.

Thing with stainless exhausts and how makes em for ya, is the quality, routing, welding is tig or mig, back purge and if they use mandrel bends. I know long life dont use em, and they don't back purge either.
I also don't think longlife will come off the dump pipe, let alone the turbo, only from downpipe back.
I made mine, tigged, purged and mandrel bends and parts not much under 250, but that's including gas too tho.
