  • In the market for a new head!

Well over the past few days I've been hearing a bubbling sound after switching off.I have had issues for 6 months + now and I think its big bill time now,IE new head time!

The wife and I did a test tonight, after a search on here, with a balloon(did'nt have a spare condom),and the ballon blew up, with a finger over the expansion bottle tube.

The second photo shows the gases that are being pushed out,a slightly white/grey colour.

So,on the basis that the head is Donald Ducked a couple of questions please!

1/Why would I buy an assembled head oved a bare head?

2/Why would I buy a bare head from R/trax for £530 if I could buy one from an Ebay seller for £290?

3/ How do I visit the site supporters websites?

    Cheers all

Why do you think the head's gone? All looks normal to me, unless I'm being stupid. Normal expansion would blow the balloon up and the stuff coming out of the pipe will be water vapour. To answer the questions though:

    1. So you don't have to assemble it and you know it's all good.
    2. Because the ebay ones will do the same again.
    3. If you mean Stevo, http://www.autoinsider.co.uk/local/e...g/ai_18574.php

      Thanks Sancho!

Yes normal expansion, but that balloon blew up in about 15 seconds.

Why do you think the Ebay one will do the same? Personal experience? If the Ebay one lasted 15 years it will do!

      Thanks for the stevo link!!

      Cheers

Sorry to hear old chap...but do a sniffer test to confirm those gases are exhaust. An ebay head wont last 15 years...not joking when i gues maybe 15 weeks. They are not worth it.
        Non intercooled nothing.

There are other companies who use the same castings and offer built heads, "cylinder head co.", google, sort out all your cooling periferals, rad, fan, stat, clamps n hoses and fit an oil cooler too if you want the next one to stay cool. H

There have been reports on here of people buying the ebay heads and them going again shortly after. Some of them are previously cracked and have been stitched and/or skimmed. Some are just badly made chinese jobs using low grade materials.

There's loads of suppliers out there BUT the only ones that have a track record that I'm aware of are Stevo and Roughtrax ...

The question you've got to ask yourself is "Do I feel lucky?"

                Cheers Guys

Yes I will sniff test it but I'm pretty sure this is the culmination of lots of small signs,IE loss of coolant, overheating on hills etc.

I suppose your all right about the Eblag heads, don't get me wrong I'm not tight, but if I can Save a few quid I will!

So why Buy built up? Is it that difficult to strip the old head and build up the new one?

                Regards

                  Good advice Hazzo

I've done all that, except the oil cooler(mines a manual box)

Couldn't agree more. Roughtrax (who use AMC heads) or Stevo are really the only reliable way to go for this.
