Cnut. (if of course the report is as it seems)

Been in a similar situation. A guy had a fit smashed his head on concrete, bit through his tongue. A couple of us looked after him on the stairwell where he had fallen. A group of people walked past to see an unconscious man bleeding profusely. One of them said to the other 'are you going to stop?' 'no' she replied 'it's my day off' Selfish cow.

To my mind anyone with any kind of training be it a first aid course or professional training has a duty to help. In fact, scratch that I think everyone has a duty to help (not in the British stand-around-looking-and-hope-someone-else-will-do-something way) if they can. If only because we would all hope that someone else would help if it was us or ours in need.

Might have been a "calling" years ago, same as cops, firemen etc, now its just another job that most do to feed their kids and keep the wolf from the door, all of these occupations are currently under the cuts or privatization threats, none are paid what they should be so it doesn't surprise me one bit he/she continued their measly meal break. It would be nice to think people "care" about the welfare of others but in reality nobody gives a damn anymore, we proved that with having a minority Tory government calling the shots while public services and employees suffer the regime, we voted for the cake, its now time to eat. Well considering it happened during the (hopefully) last labour government, it appears the rot had already set in,sometime during the previous, wonderful, 13 years.

My wife has just qualified, and is now a nurse.
She told me than under RCN rules, she has to attend to a person even if she's off duty, like whilst out shopping. Only if it's not detrimental to her safety and she dosent have to give mouth to mouth resuscitatation if the person has blood in their mouth.

happened in october under this administration but your right, none of the bstards do any good for those that matter, they all expect to take the pi55 then gripe when no-one responds to the piper, I think there's a lot worse to come in the near future unless our "ruling class" can dredge their heads from their behinds. Yes, I thought there was some sort of legal imperative. Based on that, surely said technician should be booted out? Personally, I would have gone to her aid, mealbreak or not.

For someone to suggest that 'no-one cares' is typical Daily Mail bullshit. Also, I would suggest that the country is in the mess its in due in the main to the failings of the last government in their complete loss of control of spending. The country is in massive debt. Money doesnt grow on trees. Ergo, there will be pain until we are back in the black.

AND while I'm on the subject...

That tired old labour comment 'it will hit the poor hardest' - well duh! If VAT was 0%, buying a loaf still hits poor more than it does the better off! They are clueless - totally clueless. They still havent got any published policies, other than booing and laughing like schoolkids at the other side's policies. To be fair though, they're both perfectly capable of that.

As far as the fire service and the police go (note I haven't included health service staff here) they are paid enough for what they do. Fire service spend half their lives at work asleep, and health and safety rules suggest the job is no more dangerous (and possibly less so) than a taxi driver! Same goes for plod in general these days.

Sorry Andy, taxi drivers don't have to deal with dead kids who tried to hide in the cupboard or under the bed, they don't deal with body parts on M way smashes, they don't go into undergrounds and the like after expolsions and deal/face the horrors.

They see some nasty stuff, granted, but the usual thing trotted out when they complain about pay is 'the danger'. I was suggesting (and still maintain) that the job is no more dangerous than driving a taxi.

Bomb disposal is safer than a Friday night Glasgow taxi route.

And just how many Glasgow taxi drivers have died on duty in the last 12 months ?

Life is too important to take seriously !

Well judging by the inquest, the problem was that neither did the emergency services. They were all waiting until the tunnels were declared safe by all accounts...

Now I know that the IRA always used secondary IEDs to cause the maximum carnage once the rescue services arrived and so the protocol is to steer clear until the area has been swept, but most of the first aid/recovery work seems to have been done in the tunnels by passengers and underground staff, at least for an hour or so, and it does seem pretty hard to justify (with the benefit of hindsight admittedly).

Incidentally for my part the selflessness, compassion and downright balls shown by many of the said passengers, some of whom had pretty horrifiic injuries themselves, puts paid in my book to the Daily Mail "no-one cares anymore" crap. Some pretty amazing stories of real genuine and completely ordinary heroes.
