advise needed putting petrol in deisel ????

hi guys i dont know how true this is as im a bit green when it comes to deisels but i was told today i should put 5ltr of petrol in my 3.0td when i fill up with deisel he said it would give me more oomph and better mpg and keep fuel tank/ system and engine cleaner.
have not done this yet thought i would take advise from the people who knows best on this forum, but dose it work, he also said somthing about mixing 2 stroke oil but thats a different matter,
im all for getting a little extra on the mpg as this is my first surf and i love it but is expencive to run.
any feedback very welcome

Back in the day when diesels had probs with gelling in freezing temps, people added petrol to stop this.
Now with the new additives put in in the refining I believe it's no longer needed.

I know the feeling Vince. ###### fuel going up again tomorrow, I think all additves are in as reqd. Maybe we should all buy Apaches assume the postion stickers for the fuel flap, I still wear mine with pride !
