  • pulling to one side...

Just noticed this mornin my Truck is pulling to the right slightly when driving, but then pulling to the left when braking, very frustrating! i suspect it maybe the tyre pressure causing the pulling when driving and maybe uneven brake pad wear for the pulling when braking.
Does anyone know the correct pressure for 33" tyres???

tyre pressure probably causing the pulling when driving, but i suspect uneven brake pad wear causing the pulling to the opposite side when braking. il check the tyre wall, thanks bud.

Pulling when driving could well be trye pressure or tracking.
Pulling when braking is uneven braking force, normally a stuck or seizing piston in your caliper, especially in view of the amount or salt thats been on the roads recently!!

yep most likley the salt to blame... Its never been washed for 3 weeks so i will have quite a build up, il blast it off later see if that helps. 37-40 PSi seems to be the correct pressure for 33" tyres so il do that aswell while im on.

The fella who put my 33's on told me i should only put 30psi in them.

i thought it would've been higher, but he's the specialist, not me!

40psi is quite high, They'll have a very hard ride at that pressure.

I like to wear my portable tens machine when driving, if you put the electrodes on your shoulder blades and use the massage program 'H' this will cause your muscles to constrict and lead to your truck pulling to one side.
If you do use one of these machines, ignore the bit in the instructions where it says "Do not use on your sexual organs"

30psi definately too low, MPG would be greatly affected running with 30psi... i was driving past a local tyre place an hr ago ago and swung in just to ask, he said 18psi off road and around 37psi road driving in 33" tyres. all research iv done on the net suggests round about the same so il stick 37 in them see how it goes.

                    The chalk test.
                    Taken from another site

"Take some chalk and mash it onto your tread from shoulder to shoulder and about as long as the width of your tyre. roll your Truck forward and observe the chalk to see how much of your tread actually made contact with the ground. optimally, you want the whole thing shoulder to shoulder making contact as that will give you even wear. too much pressure and you will have a harsh ride and uneven wear down the middle. too little pressure and you may have too much sidewall flex and uneven wear on the outsides of your tyre."

Or save time and run over something organic, or check out your treads in the snow.

Or pull into a tyre place and ask them to check your tyre pressures.

The toe-in on the front end needs sorting if you haven't done it yet from what I remember of the front end photo you attached to one of your early posts... Might as well sort that in case it's an issue.

its only just started doing it today the pics were took ags ago. il try the tyre pressures coz one side does look slightly softer and give the wheels a good blast off to unclog the salt from the brake discs and if its not that il get my pal on the case at the weekend, cheers for the advice.

It won't be salt on the discs causing a problem it will be the higher corrosion ability of salt mixed with water that will have siezed one or more of your pistons into the caliper causing uneven braking pressure and your pull.
Washing will not sort out the stuck piston,it needs freeing off, idealy with a rebuild or if your lucky a bit of WD40.

                          Regards

                            Update!!!

just been down morrisons and attacked it with the jet wash. went at the brake calipers and pads, then lifted the bonnet and blasted all round the bay right down into the wheel wells giving eveything a good clean off... Got back in the truck, drove it home and hey presto, no pulling to one side when driving!!! and no pulling to one side when braking!!!

fingers crossed im really hoping thats the problem sorted!

who'd have thought road salt could actually cause them problems!
