Christ on a bike I miss Scotland.

Way to much wooly liberalism down this way.

I am agreeing with you that Army is always preceded by "an" not "a". But disagreeing that that is relevant to the discussion. And I am saying that Albannach is perhaps wrong to say that the Army invariably takes the singular, but right to say that ordinarily the context in which it is used favours his singular usage. So everyone is mostly right, as ever.

FLM has an ef sound, a vowel sound, so is preceded by an, as is any word staring with vowel.

House and heater start with an h sound, not a vowel sound, nor a vowel, so the a is used.

The rule you tried to quote earlier covers all words starting in a vowel or vowel sound.
    See.

I know you found Uniform as an exception, but as a general rule it applies.
No you didn't, in post 33 you gave no indication of it being the rule in 'general' but stated it as a rule.

We are just organising the ates for this coming year pal, they will be posted for members approval soon.

I have the cash for my garage build an conversion of my old one, so it will be a busy year for me.

I am heading to Wales apparently and the run to Cape Wrath looks like it will be August.

Mind you are on the leccy work for both projects
