My beloved Hilux Surf (1991 2.4 Turbo diesel) died suddenly in the snow - I just couldn't unfreeze my bonnet so hadn't check the oil.. Result - you know it! While the snow fell, my oil somehow ran out, knocking started. Garage said replace the engine. The Horror! I have a mate prepared to help me do that (as I am inept (obviously)) but where do I look for a reasonable price for a good condition engine?? Central Devon would be good..

Hi Rod.Bushy's price for the engine complete is very good and add another £100 delivery onto that and its still a bargain. You can give Lee (supersurf) a shout for the fitting as he is in Mutley and he could well get the truck collected aswell but you will need to ask him about that.If you want his number let me know and i'll email it overhttps://www.facebook.com/groups/henpals/

the engine bushwhacker is offering you is in my truck - ive had the truck nearly 6 years (kms are genuine, i know the previous owner). its had oil and filter changes every 2000km (free at work, courtesy of caterpillar) - also had new glow plugs last winter. its never let me down and drove from holland to wales to get the v8 conversion done.
hope it gets you out of a jam - cheers - gary.

Thanks guys! It sounds like my chaos is getting sorted.
Bushwacker, I definately want it! Thanks for the recommendation, Stormforce. Come talk to me on email - rupadarshin@tiscali.co.uk . With that Christmas thing getting in the way - and 'delivery for £100' to be organised.. Once it's out, can it sit and wait till the festive things over? I have a diesel nut living here who's up for fitting it, but needs to find the time in the next month or so. I should be able to buy the engine to give you parts money for Christmas.
Come talk to me. Excellent!

No problem, I'll keep it here until you can get it collected.

It's all coming nicely together - nice one Stormforce ( if my bank doesn't shoot me down anyway) Bushwacker, I've asked for a phone number - and also for Lee in Mutley to maybe actually fit it properly - so I may spread the cash further among us Surf fans - and not the garage breadheads!
It's all terrible timing - as I'm snowed in - without me Surf to get me out..

Happy New Year, now to business!
Bushwacker, Gary-R, I have cheques clearing though my bank - (that got stuck in a frozen postbox for a bit..) Christmas recovery funds - how unusual.. By Friday I should be ready to transfer funds - to you Bushwacker for Gary-rs' 2.4 engine - and then for whoever can transport it to me over near Okehampton.
Apparently I have to build a composting loo in exchange for assistance with my replacing the engine. The things we have to do... Happily!
Email me please. rupadarshin@tiscali.co.uk (Call me Rod..)

Wish me luck, guys. After 2 weeks of looking at an engine under a tarp, I gather the workshop - and my wildly skilled mate - will have time free to do the big swop next week. I'm just gonna pass him spanners, he says I've got the fluids ready - and the patient can drive the needed 40 feet to the workshop. I can't wait!

Marvelous!
just remember, don't chop or break any wires or connectors on the engine you're taking out as you'll need them for the replacement.

A new engine goes IN!
28 Feb - I'm deep in the world of replacing my engine! Holy s**t this is a fast learning curve.. As I can't find a way to upload photos of the chaos, here's a link to a few shots on my Flickr account : http://www.flickr.com/photos/58499681@N05/5486741374/" title="d The replacement going in by rupadarshin1, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5133/5486741374_a20f1129b2.jpg (Yep, it seems to work)
Muchas gracias Bushwacker and Garyv!! This is a damn fine engine and all looks good for completing tomorrow, oiling and fueling for that big test.
It may even be up for me next MOT in 3 weeks.. (Good thing I was rebuilding the engine - I found out my exhaust was a disgrace )
Go well, guys.
