It would, but you'd only be a couple of inches above where it is now. Now, if you ran some kind of pipe out of that and on to the roof....

Thanks sancho!! Bushwacker kindly pointed out that as a daily driver its unlikely I'll really wade any deeper than this, a couple inches is a plus but mainly the water will travel over and away from the air flow as opposed to being sucked in from the front! I guess its more of a "bow wave deflecter" than a snorkel. I'll post the breakdown design. Its made from a base and the scoop attaches to the top so could make it to come with a replaceable snorkel pipe???

              Yep, it worked fine too.

In a Surf, more than about half way up the doors, you float. Trust me, Been there in floods in Welshpool a few years ago and I SH1T myself!

Sooo, you dont need anything higher than bonnet height for slow wading really. If you go deeper, you'll float, and you'll have to open the doors to keep going.

Therefore, its a bit academic really.

I thought of my snorkel as an insurance policy against stupidity on my part - you know, too fast into a river etc.

It was the road that passes Welshpool airport, and the flood was about a mile long along the stretch that goes from the bypass to the hills South of Welshpool. It was flowing gently across the line of the road and we got to the point where the back was starting to bob and get pushed round. I think we made it on front wheel drive! Thank god for no centre diff!

The farmer's landy that went through in front of us stopped on the hill at the other side to let water out. I had to stop and pull some fuses because the relays (mounted on top of the inner wing) that controlled my front spots were full of water and shorted out so all my spots were on, and half full of water. Interesting times!

I had a brilliant looking snorkel on my old rangerover, and I tested it out at every opportunity!, shame it conked out almost everytime though! Well everytime actually..

Has anyone got any videos of their surfs in deep water?

                        Cheers,

I think into the cab is an idea to think about.
I personally don't like the look of snorkels and for an off road only truck, into the cab isn't a bad idea.
Not sure about a daily driver though.

Be better with no windows too then. I'm thinking the vacuum pulses generated through the inlet in an enclosed space would wreck your ears when you boot the gas to exit a hole or something!

my vehicle is a daily driver so having all that sucking noise inside the truck isn't a good idea, if you look at my posts I've designed a "bow wave deflector" kind of a stumpy snorkel but as I won't be going any deeper than the wing should be perfect for avoiding getting water blown up the intake from the front of the truck if I do go through a big puddle too quickly lol. Any bow waves that do come up over the bonnet will wash straight past without being forced onto the intake. I'm gonna make this soon. Gonna ring about materials tomorrow if I get 5 mins! Would anyone else be interested in one? They will be about 5" wide and 6" long and 2" high and will come with everything to plumb them in!!!
