  • [question] 2nd gen solid front axle

Does anyone know much about this conversion? Would I need more lift to be able to do this?
    Oh Nana, what's my name?

Tony, I'm worried about you. You should probably see a doctor/reiki healer/herbalist about your allergy the search function.

You are looking at the thick end of £2.5k + even more if you want coil sprung

It is awesome off road though

I'm on with this at the mo' an it's not gonna come anywhere near 2.5k.! Im planning on using fox air 2.5 nitrogen shocks too. In fact the sus & engine swap 'shouldn't' cost more than 2.5k, i am doing it all myself however..

If your doing it your self it will always be more cost effective and save you money. But a lot of people dont have the option of doing it themselves.

Hi thanks for all the replies.
I've seen a leaf sprung 4runner solid axle. The same shape as a 2nd gen surf. Would this be cheaper and easier than a coil sprung setup? I would rather go the easier route even if it was more expensive (I'd favour easy over cost).

2.5k sounds a bit much though but I suppose thats the maximum?

When you say you are doing it yourself, do you need any special equipment? If they are willing I would rather / or may ask Mark or Tony to do the work (if they are willing!)

Lastly, I'm guessing there would be more room for a V8? And the rear would need more lift right?

The reason it cost bio so much,is because he bought a complete hilux pickup truck that had all the bits he needed. If i remember rightly we charged around 2k for the fabrication work involved and parts for a complete over haul of the solid axle, plus we lifted the rear of his truck by 6 inches or so,to compensate for the lift on the front.Oh and yes i can sort out the sas on your truck if you so require it.

if you do go for it you will require.
                        1.a solid front axle
                        2.some leaf springs/coil sprung add extra £££££££££
                        3.longer brake lines
                        4.prop shaft spacers
                        5.a cross steering system
                        6.steering dampers
                        7.a rope ladder

I still have the bill here listing all the parts ....it's best to do all the bearings and seals whilst it is off. The pick up cost me about £700 but i got some money back from some of the other goodies on it .

Also you need to be looking at running 35" tyres or it will look like a rollerskate the front lift needs to be matched by the rear and i had +3 springs and +2 shackles for the front

Also mine was the outrageousoffroad prototype

                            Thanks Mark,
I'm probably looking for something along the lines of these trucks:
Anything bigger and driving in England would be difficult I think.

                            How do you get in?
