I only @ someone cos i think its a nice thing to do if you are thanking them for something and want to hightlight the service that you have received from them to the rest of the forum.

But hey if you dont like it i am sure you can ignore them ... you never know one may be aimed at you some day.

I normally totally ignore them, unless it has my name in the title or the thread goes to 2 pages.

The reason for this thread is becuse this past few months I've noticed more and more people being specific about who they ask for advice or parts. If, as I do, people don't look at the threads and the specific person asked can't help, the poster may not get what they want.

There was a thread a few weeks back asking someone for some parts, they didn't have them so the OP bought new. I have the parts here and could have saved the person some money if they hadn't been so specific with their request.

The only one I think is relevant is '@ TonyN', because nobody can ever PM him.

If I wanted to hilight something, the last thing I'd do is start a @ thread. I'd mention sex in the title or kid on I was female.

I normally put the @ mainly because alot of members don't activate the pm alert box that comes up and they don't realise they have a pm.
Also as i get alot of pm's due to the parts i sell so i just put the @ whoever up here so they can see it when they log onto the forum

I saw an @ thread for someone I knew was away for a few days so I posted on it to tell the OP this was the case.

I do post @'s to thank people, is there any harm done?

I ask specific people questions. I don't remember putting @ in the title.
I would ask specific people specific questions, so I get a qualified answer, and not some search engine wisdom.
Other than that, it's just my usual tripe I post.
