Hi vince just wondered if i could ask a few questions concerning the 1uzfe engine.
The engine in the soarer has done just over 60k.But its been layed up for nearly two years.Apart from the usual fluid changes,is there anything else you would reccomend.?

secondly....would you say i needed to change the timing belt or do you think it would be ok for a few thousand miles?

Ive changed all the oils and filters, just got to flush the auto box through and that should be it.The leads, caps, and other electrical bits appear to be ok.starts straight up and purrs like a kitten.

My MONDEO had been stood for 2 years. My Mechanic mate changed the CAM-BELT as he said it would be too risky. We also removed the Plugs and turned engine over by hand then with the Starter Motor. Fitted plugs & she fired up straight away.

The injectors can gum up if left idle for more than six months.
If the timing belt is shiny on the smooth side, replace it. If not it'll be fine for a few thousand miles at least.
Early (up to 1998) 1UZ cylinder heads are non-interference, so if the belt does snap, no damage will be done to the valves or pistons.

Cheers vince,i'll check the belt, injectors seem to be firing ok.maybe a bottle of injector cleaner in the fuel wouldnt go a miss, mines a 1999 motor.

The engine is a 1999 or the reg?
If it's a 1999 engine then it'll be a VVTi with built in security in the ECU and much harder to get the engine running in a donor vehicle.
Does the inlet plenum look the same as in my photos?

                  OK, cool.
The newer engines look similar to the Chevy LS1 V8, they have the throttle body at the front of the plenum.

I have to admit,im liking the supercharger mod they do,i might have a go at building an inlet manifold for one if and when i get the time.looks pretty straight forward.

According to autodata all these engines (1uz-fe) are "interference" engines whether early or late....For the cost, I'd change it personally...due at 63k anyway.
What have I told you about thinking Erroll

So you' rather believe something you read on the internet than someone who's actually taken one apart?

                        F**K you!

                          not on internet..cd actually

I trust what you say from your own experience, but autodata isn't often wrong....its used by most good workshops and costs a fortune...just my opinion....

I can also assure you that the 1UZ-FE V8 engine is non-interference, also it is quite normal for the timing belt to be changed at 60,000 miles however the normal change milage stated by Lexus is 90,000 miles, also the japanese spec V8 soarer ceased production in 1997 (the turbo's till 2000 japan only ) but were sold in the states to 2000 so the only 1999 model soarer would have to be left hand drive.
