Well the engines are used in racing and almost infinitely tune-able, never heard any bad things about them, they are fitted to Landcruisers too, there's no timing belt to worry about as they have a chain........
No starting problems in freezing weather like the diesel, sparkplugs are cheaper than glowplugs..........I'll stop now.

Both auto.

No wanting to put you off manuals, but check if the dual mass flywheel has been replaced either with a new DMF or standard type flywheel, otherwise set aside 600 quid for a new one.
