I'm not saying the Safari isn't great, but knowing what I know now, a snorkel is an insurance policy against water ingress. Not a bling item to make me look like a 'proper' offroader. AND 'm fairly sure a DIY snorkel can be made to look as good as the big name equivalent with a little care and clever design.
Ergo, if I can get the same insurance policy for £30 and some pleasant rewarding fiddling and pottering, as against a few hundred quid which I could otherwise spend on curry and beer, guess which one I'm gonna choose these days?
But, if you have the cash, and you'd rather not DIY, a Safari or a TJM will do the same thing whilst lightening that stupidly heavy wallet which is such a PITA to fit in the back pocket of your Ralph Laurens.

The whole thing about the safari not being diy is a bit odd as you still have to cut 2 big holes in the truck plus all the bolt holes etc. Not exactly a piece of cake to most 'non enthusiasts' shall we say.
Looking forward to seeing your diy 3rd gen snorkel now...
I tend to plan things for a looooong time as I dont like to leave anything to chance. I have this vision in my mind of an aluminium jobbie with a patina of use... Watch this space - in about 6 - 12 months
Yeah, you're right. A snorkel is hardly a 5 minute plug and play item anyway is it? I'm sure those with fists of ham could easily make an aftermarket snorkel look like a piece of shit through inept fitting...
look 14 quid at b 'n' q will get the pipe and joins needed
viset the scrapy 2 old rover cv boot rubbers i got for free
that far better than wadeing with out a snorkel
and almost any one can do it
has long has a diesel can breath it will keep going
these 200-300 quid snorkels are ok if that floats ya boat
but its not needed
anyhow its down to what you want
after all when the lexurf is done its not having that snorkel
if its is still to have one its got to match the bull bar
Well I take my hat off to all those that made their own, I tried it and it cost me a new wing to repair the damage.
So to those that can't a safari is a useful insurance option, and as my truck now only goes out in adberse weather or for playing, it really isn't bling because very few people see it.
