0-60 in 7 seconds in a seven tonne vehicle, that requires some serious HP!
They must be really cool Limo's.
I was being serious with my questions though. I know the ring gear is circular, hence my question about what is being measured in the photo.
The paint marks on the ring gear teeth suggest it's already been set up for "lash". Once in the carrier only the end float is really of any importance.
I thought it looked more like a viscous coupled LSD (Torsen type) but it could be a fibre pack type - where opposing drive plates would, neccessararaly be non concentric. What checks do you need to do/adjust once the differential is bolted into its torque housing?
Most American stuff is very agricultural in design - unusual for this to be any different. Are you still speaking about H2 stuff? The hydraulic motor, portal axel H1 is easier to set up, thought H2 was based on the Chevy Suburban running gear.
Still looks like an LSD rather than a locker though...
Nope nope and nope. The torsen diff principal was discontinued a while ago I believe. The diff choice on a limo is much more limited compared to a standard car. It's most definitely a locker as the Deere manufactured( fir GM) final drives are by default all lockabke. We eventually obtained this one from my brother in law who works at john Deere in Waterloo Iowa. It's used on amongst other thiings a snow blower and a zamboni. The ring is not concentirc on it's exterior. It's possible to mount it in many different positions, depending on it's application.
It's odd
it's weird
but it works if you get backlash, ring lash and the dual dog pulse correct.
So did I. Since vosa visited, half the drivers are gone...no pcv licence!
the boss man BEGGED me to drive on Saturday and I declined. He bleated about being there all the time, till I pointed out it is his business and his lack of licenced drivers is something I give not two hoots about. I'm self employed, but undertook to keep the fleet running... But I'm getting slightly irked with all the extra jobs that are foisted on me...and driving a load of drunk a**holes about on a sat night/sun morning is one job I ain't to keen on.

Anyone looked at his BMW yet?
I did say I was on holiday, but he didn't seem to understand and was expecting me to come back the next day and sort it.

Yup. I plugged the reader in, it showed an internal solenoid fault and several other failures including the MAF sensor. I gave him a price to do the job(new box, MAF, and a uj...he declined and Lent it to a family member. This family member then drove it to France and blew up the box.
