  • need some help

Hi all , long time no talk , i have been a bit busy this year with Claire (not been to good ) things looking better now .
now i know this is a hilux site , but i was needing some help on a Mondeo .

Claires car has been parked for a few months and for some reason the fuel pump packed up , ( its a 52 plate 1.8 petrol)

new pump fitted and car runs fine , but i have no fuel gauge now .

confession time , i sent a live 12v up the earth wire feed to the sender .
i have traced the wire back to the fuse box and it just connects to a plug that then runs into the dash , also if i unplug the dash for a few seconds and refit all the dials do a self check and the fuel gauge works in that.
so any help would be great .

and a pic of the surf just for fun
    i bust things ,, it a skill i have ,,( need help?)

Have you checked the fuses? Double check you have not knocked or broken any wires,

    Cheers, Nick

I'm not 100% sure, but the signal from wherever the road speed senser is, is a signal voltage...around the 5v mark...might have fried something.
      Non intercooled nothing.

i just need to find out what .
i was hopeing it was just a ground to earth , but it looks like it may be a bcm or the pcb in the clocks .
if i test for an earth with the tank unpluged it has no earth at all

Have you checked the error codes?

This works on mine, but mines an 05 so might have a different computer

          Self Diagnostics Mode
The Self Diagnostics Mode gives you in-depth information about your
engine and the actual numbers in digital. To use it, follow the steps:
          * Insert Key but do not turn it on
          * Press and hold the Trip Meter Reset Button
          * While holding the reset button, Turn ignition until dash lights come on and
          continue holding the button
          * Within 10 seconds, the display should change to "test" in LCD font
and the needles will do a full sweeping. Release the Button
Pressing the button will now cycle through some 17 different modes
          * 1. Shows a Gauge Sweep
          * 2. Shows all 8's on the LCD (LCD TEST)
          * 3. Illuminates all the bulbs on the dash
          * 4. Displays hexadecimal value for ROM level
          * 5. Displays the hexadecimal value for EE level
          * 6. Shows DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code)
          * 7. Digital Speedometer - mph

If that does work, here some extras you can try

          Anti Hijack Feature
          1. Turn on ignition until the dash lights come on but don't start engine!
          2. Lock and unlock the door using the lever on the door handle 3 Times
          3. Turn off ignition
          4. Repeat 2 but with ignition OFF
          5. Turn on ignition - should hear a beep
          6. Lock door again as in 2 BUT ONLY ONCE - final beep should be heard
          7. Done!
Doors should now lock at around 5mph. including reverse!!!

          Turning Off Seatbelt Reminder
Before starting this procedure, make sure that... The handbrake's on It's in Park
or neutral.Ignition is off. All doors are closed (and you're in the car). All the
seatbelts are unbuckled. The headlamps are off.
          Deactivating/Activating
Turn the ignition switch to position II. (Do not start the engine).
Wait until the safety belt warning indicator turns off. (Approximately one to two
          minutes).
The next 3 steps must be completed within 60 seconds or the procedure must be
          repeated.
Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the safety belt
          unbuckled.
Turn the headlamps ON then OFF.
Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times ending with the safety belt
          unbuckled.
After this step the safety belt warning indicator will be illuminated for three
          seconds.
Within seven seconds of the safety belt warning indicator turning off, buckle then
          unbuckle
the safety belt. This will enable the belt minder if disabled or disable belt minder
          if enabled.
The following sequence will confirm the belt minder is enabled:
The safety belt warning indicator flashes four times per second for three seconds.
Three seconds with the safety belt warning indicator off. The safety belt warning
indicator flashes four times per second for three seconds again.
The safety belt warning indicator flashing four times per second for three seconds
provides confirmation of belt minder disabled.
After confirmation, the deactivation/activation procedure is complete

1 If the vehicle doesn't have a seatbelt warning light, use the SRS (airbag) warning
          indicator instead.
2 If the seatbelt light doesn't normally come on until you move, proceed as above,
          without initially
waiting for the belt warning indicator to go off (in this case, after the second three
          buckles, the
indicator will flash a couple of times, instead of being illuminated for 3 seconds)

                  Bugger.

If you know anyone that can use that info please pass it on, as some people charge up to £5 for that on ebay, and with a little digging it can be found for free.
