  • Tempted By A Shogun

My search for a 3rd gen is proving fruitless at the moment so I started browsing other 4 x 4's and I came across this.

Now before I'm lined up against a wall and shot consider this. A 1996 / 97 3rd gen goes for between £3,300 to £4,200 depending on the model and condition. I suppose you could get this Shogun for £4,200 on a Y plate with full leather, all the toys and it's not an import so I assume it would be easier to insure.

The only trouble is that it's a manual and it's a bit ugly (and yes I do realise it's a hated Mitsubishi!). I'm kind of glad it's not to close or I would have gone and had a look at the weekend.

Please someone find me a 3rd gen before I go off the rails!

Nice interior, not the most handsome exterior, i would mount bull bars and a set of meaty spots to disguise the front

You can't see the outside once you are inside!

Goes for other things as well

I'd drive one. Never know till you try, you can always get a surf after that one.

A shogun was my first choice till i found out about surfs, alot more modern than a surf & more luxuries.

              I'd still have one.
If its not broke don't fix it.

I've driven one of those and compared to a Surf, it's like driving a van!

                You won't like it Jim.

I tried three shogun's before the surf, I must admit I don't mind the looks of them, not as nice as the surf but I don't consider them ugly either, it was the drive that put me off, of the 3 different versions I tried, all under powered and handled like a supertanker with a stuck rudder, I did find the seats more comfortable though.

My Mrs was dead set on a Shogun - until she drove one ...

Feels like driving a lorry and gutless to boot - the Challenger/Shogun Sport is much better to drive but it's still totally gutless

                    But it's your choice

I sometimes try the accidental rub test.
When I am in a carpark, I rub myself up against different 4x4's and check the effect they have on me.
It maybe better if you do this of an evening, I have been arrested on two occasions during the day.
The front wing is best I find, just slowly, up and down.
Anyway, today I tried a Suzuki SJ413, a Freelander and a Shogun. Suprising results came from the Shogun.

edit: This only applies to carparks. It's seen as bad form when viewing a vehicle.

                              I read James Clavell's book.

                              That was good.
