  • fuel tank filter

after using the 'search' button and trawling through a load of different posts(some quite interesting on the alternative fuel oils), i still cant find any info on the fuel filter immediately after the fuel tank.

is it easily changeable? and where do i buy a replacement from?

cant find any on rough trax or milners.

the reason being that i want one is for when i start using SVO.

mine does not have one just after the fuel tank, not saying there isnt supposed to be one but maybe its been retro-fitted.
I have a small pick-up filter in the tank, ive put an in-line filter halfway there for good measures because mine had the main filter missing when i bought my truck.

Pretty sure there isn't one, the small thing you might be able to see is a one way air valve, best bet for SVO is obtain a complets filter unit from a breaker (stormy) and mount that inline

looks like i might have to go that route.

i which filter would you use for an inline.... just your standard engine filter without the primer thingy-me-bob

Basicly any in-line fuel filter will do, i just used another surf one for ease of replaceing it, saved haveing to get two different filters, for svo it'll help to either run a hot water (coolant) jacket round it or splash out for a premade heated filter, i fitted mine up on the panard rod bracket, with a copper coil wrapped round it,

that looks pretty damn good i must say!, with a bit of practice you could get it looking great.....heres my surf, try it again.

where did you get the coolant extended from?, the rear heaters underneath?

No there small bore pipes, i took the feed/return from the heater up on the bulkhead, just made some 15mm copper tee's up, run it in heater hose through an exchanger and then on to an electric pump (to help the flow) mounted at the back, then through a heater coil in the veg tank, then through the filter and back through to the return, (i also ran the return through a rad and back through 22mm copper to cool the coolant as much as pos but thats a 2.4 thing)

i should add that i intended to lag that filter as it's wide open to the elements, in fact i did a lot of work building this svo/wvo set up, but the price of svo rocketed and i cant get a decent regular supply of used so it got left as it is, also intended fitting a 12v in-line fuel pump to take the strain off the IP, and makeing up a sort of hot oil-cold start system useing a swirl tank made from plastic plumbing soil pipe with caps, a pair of glow plugs and a small circulating pump with the IP return running back to the swirl, all controlled via thermo switches and reed (level) switches, the idea being to be able to switch this lot on prior to starting, for the clever on here it would prob be possible to rig a remote start for it, from the comfort of you liveing roon window you could fire it up give it 15mins or so so you have hot fuel at the injectors all ready and waiting, reed switches controlling the oil level in the swirl and thermo switches controlling the temp of the oil,
all this was when i was "keen" tho! aint touched the bugga for over a year now, just drive it

The filter on the fuel tank is only a breather. The only fuel filter is under the bonnet on the bulkhead.
If theres a pressure build up in the tank you will hear it hiss when the filler cap is taken off.You can either just fit another breather pipe or just drill a tiny hole through the filler cap

sounds like a nifty set up. when do you think you will return to it?

i only thought about using SVO recently as the diesel price is going up and up and doesnt look like stopping.

wish i had been using it a long time ago.

if they wouldnt use the motorist as a cash cow then it might not be so bad.

but they damn well know that alot of people need to drive so they pounce on it.

then claim its reducing the carbon footprint?...by taxing more?......

Remember veg oil on the shelf at 20p a lt when derv was about 90p odd, the bstd shot up practically over night when they discovered guys were sticking it in their tanks, governmet's $hit scared their gonna loose out of a bob or two, and the greedy supermarket chains saw the chance at a good price hike, as if they dont make enough profiet, it's just a rip off all round,
