  • French Reg Day???

I'm off to Limoges today, first to have my sons plaster cast cut off his leg, and after to the Prefecture(The French equivalent of the DVLA) to see if I can finally push my truck into the French system.
I'm armed with my dossier of many papers, but I bet some bureaucratic jobs worth will find a reason to say "non"

        Good luck.

Will you have to pay import tax ? If so how do they value a surf as I'm fairly sure it won't be on the French equivalent of a glasses book
If it can be broken it can be fixed

No! no inport tax as the tax has been paid in the European Union when the car was new! Cost me today €220 to buy my Carte Gris (Registration document) and €40 for the new number plates.
Best thing is I can bring her back to England now, maybe for avalanche next year.Since March when the T & T expired I've been riding in a "grey" area of awaiting re-registration. It's cost we nearly €600 to get it into the system but with my puchace price of €1800,airfares,diesel and ferry of about €350,it's cost me in total about €2750,about £2300,but the same French LHD model goes for a minimum of about €6-7000,so i'm well pleased. The best thing is if it gets written off the insurance pay out at French rates! It's almost worth writing it off

              Regards

Well done I need to get mine registered here have been putting off as I know it can be a pain but as winter is coming be handy to have it back on the road.
Did you have any problem getting Toyota to send you a non conformity letter?
Did you keep a copy of the file/documents needed? Would really appreciate any advice

                            Hi Rich
Another Ex-pat lurking! Where abouts are you?
Cert of non conformity was unexpected.I specifically sought out a 4runner because I knew it had been sold in France and thought it would ease the process,so was expecting a full conformity certificate. The guys at the CT station accepted it,and the Prefecture accepted it,and its not a case they never noticed because the certificate Toyota sent had specimen written accross it in bold red.
Is yours a 4runner or a Surf, because I think the Surf has a 12 digit chassis no and not a 17 digit number like every other european vehicle. The French don't like that because it dose'nt fit "in a box".
The reception number in France for the 4 runner is AU-2548-89-84.
I think for the Surf a DRIRE visit would be on the cards (€70).Any help I can offer you are welcome to.My mates about to start putting his Surf in the system as well now!

                            Good luck

I am in central Brittany dep 29

Ahh I see much easier for a 4runner.
Mine is a Surf so need the special visit 5 page document etc
Maybe we can share info on the documents with your friend I have registered a Jap imported Subaru Impreza and the paperwork is crazy to be honest I made most of it up or just copied the European info as long as it’s filled in they don’t mind you also have to make a plaque (I did my own with an engraver) with the axle weights on etc.
I get my LHD lights from Germany think I paid €90 a pair delivered new if your friend needs some let me know I will pass the details on.

                              Thanks Rich
