On mine it's just the button vibrating as light pressure on the button stops the noise. My solution is to put an elestic band on there to stop the rattle. Saves loads of time and money!

Was like that on my 2.4, I wedged a bit of paper in there. Probably caused by the same thing, just a little more pronounced on the 3.0. I'd like to find the problem and fix it this time rather than treat a symptom, thanks for the idea though.

That'll be the engine then. Mine does the same, I accept this as normal with a thunking great diesel. H
Thanks, that's a bit of a bugger then.
It was tolerable on the 2.4, I've had it over five years and it hasn't got any worse, but it's more noticeable on the 3.0.
It's not too bad it goes as soon as the revs rise or if I rest my hand on the lever, but it is annoying. If no one has a cure I might remove the gaiter and try wrapping some pipe insulation round the lever see if it has any effect.
