  • Under-body lighting ?

How wrong is putting under-body lighting on a Surf including wheel arches ?

I recall seeing some pics on here a couple of years ago but cant find them now.

I keep looking at my Surf wondering what it would look like with red under body and wheel arch lighting fitted. ?

Practically it would be usefully for off roading and tight maneuvering around fence posts and low obstacles etc. And for fitting snow chains in the dark, changing wheel etc.

However, is it too "chavy" ?

    All comments welcome

It would not be used on public roads or Sainsburys / Halfords car parks !
If it can be broken it can be fixed

      Oi! McKirdy!!! NO!!!!

That is VERY chavvy and you'd be the laughing stock of the forum!

I suspect you're using the wheel change / snow chains fitting as an excuse. Whats wrong with a head torch??

Just plain wrong. A rear mounted 'work' light is fine, but led's underneath are very chavtastic.

I thought that might be the response.

Headtourch is a pain and will no doubt be flat when needed, The rear mounted worklight is on my to - do list, was going to fix it on the rear hung spare.

It just kinda makes life easier to just illuminate all around the Surf.

          Damn those chaves

You wouldn't be able to see them with a coating of mud

I recon they could be guarded to give them some degree of protection from mud. Im not talking about mud plugging just the spray from going across a field etc.

              Its a good point

Like he said, lights under there will get covered in mud, you'd be better off makeing up a decent 12v inspection lamp on a long lead, now if you just want nice coloured underbody lighting come out the closet and say so,
nowt wrong wi it, it's your truck you can do wot ya like and b0ll0ks to everyone else, anyway you can fit a switch and turn em off should another surf approach,
i thought of fitting blue markers along my old side steps once but junked the steps instead, cant say i'd mind haveing some underbody lighting, look good on a cruise i reccon, anyway waste of time asking something like that from this bunch of mud humpers,

                    I've edited that for you!

In fairness to the OP I did think about doing it to mine but decided it was the wrong kind of car and I'm not a chav - innitt?

I assume you are referring to 'rock lights' as the yanks call them

Nothing wrong with fitting those, going to be fitting some myself, might come in handy one day, but under no circumstances should neons be fitted under any 4X4 especially a Surf!

They could be handy if offroading in the dark - but not neons

there the ones, not that particular photo but the same setup

                              not chavy at all

Thanks for finding the photo, it gives me a better idea of what im aiming for.

I was thinking more led strips rather than neon, its not a nova after all ;-)

                              Perhaps some led/smd clusters ?

What are you goingto fit ?
