  • Hello!

    Hi,

I'm new to the forum, and also new to owning a Surf. Recon I might be spending some time in here!

    My truck: 1996, N-reg, SSR-X, 3rd Gen 3.0TD, KZN185 flavour

It's a bit unusual in that it's a narrow-bodied truck. No arches and 15" wheels (16" were standard I thin on the KZN185?). Also - the spare wheel isn't on the back door (which I think opens from one side and outwards on most Surfs) - spare is underneath and my back door opens upwards. Well - I'm lead to believe it's an unusual truck, but then I know nothing about these vehicles really!

Question: from the limited research I've done, it seems you either have an speedo/odo that reads to either 100 or 160. But mine reads to 180 - and the oddo is definitely reading in miles. It' got 84k on the clock - one owner from import (2003).

Loving the perky 3.0TD engine and auto-box. To be honest for a 14 year old vehicle it is MINT - bodywork and interior - and has clearly been looked after...............

I wanted to, how can I put it, give it a bit more road presence. My current wheels are: 215/80 R15. If 16" rims are standard - even on narrow bodies - then I think the correct fitment is 265/70 R16. This won't really give the truck anymore presence, as the difference is largely in the width of the tyre not the overall circumference........

S0 what are my options? I can't really fit arches - no pattern parts available and at £140 an arch before painting and fitting it's not really cost effective either. So my choices are probably a lift (suspension or body) and bigger wheels.

I can't go too big for fear of fowling the bodywork. So ho big can I safely go?

Will be bobbing over to see Tony at 4x4toys next week hopefully - really really helpful on the phone, and clearly highly regarded on here. Hopefully he can shed some light on what I can and cannot achieve! Oh and maybe check the coolant for exhaust gases while I'm there.... :o)

Anyay "Hello!" to all on here and would really appreciate any perls of wisdom or thoughts on my "road presence" issue!

    Regards
    DB
