It's there to prevent any body parts of pedestrians that make it past the bullbars from hitting the windscreen, just give them that extra lift to clear the roof.

there's obviously a very good reason for the spoiler, it has the electric rear view over mirror in it, he switches it on whilst driving, to see he's beaming smile cos he's driving a surf
