  • 4 Runner superior than an imported Hilux?

4 Runner for sale on e-bay. Are they superior to an imported Hilux Surf as the man says. Its not far from me. Is it worth getting rid of mine and buying this one?

Short answer - no! Surfs have more toys fitted. Plus if he gets 30 mpg I'll eat hay with a horse!

oh yeah its a rare manual, rare 4runner with dent on the bumper and not particularly clean by the looks of it. Well worth the asking price!*

Thats one of the tidiest 4runners apart from \Koi's that is that i have seen.
I was buying them and stripping them completey for a guy in the USA and he was paying £1300 for a pile of shite.
The one on ebay may be a little over priced but he has ono on the ad aswell so i would expect to pay about £1500 to £1600 for it.
The yanks are calling out for the Diesel 4runner engines and arch ext etc.You could buy that and still make a profit by stripping it and getting everything on pallets for sending to the usa for the conversions they do.

I'd rather keep my lowly imported 2.4 than spend that sort of money on a 4runner thats seen more british winters than winston churchills bald patch!!!!

A 4runner is basically the same as a surf but with no air con or cup holders. The only way they're superior is that the manuals have a solid flywheel which is much more robust. They are also much cheaper to insure, are supported by Toyota and can have some service history. So:

4runnner - cheaper to insure, slightly more reliable.
Surf - less rusty, more toys.

There's a 'monster truck' (you know, one with slightly bigger tyres than stock) 2nd gen on eBay at the mo that gets 35-40mpg!

Tempted to tell him I'm interested, but I want proof of mpg

Maybe the guy that gets 35 - 40 mpg uses a two stroke oil additive ?

I dunno, next you'll be attempting to sell us balls of mystery metal to put in the tank to 'increase mpg by 30%!!' and telling us its true because a famous WW2 pilot said so!

I doubt any additive is going to give you any meaningful increase in mpg (nothing like enough to offset the cost of it anyway) - no more than lightening your right foot a bit, or putting a few more psi in your tyres.
