Hey guys, looking to buy a second gen (1994) Hilux Surf in a bit and have a few questions regarding modifications for my 1KZ.

-Is there any chip/tuner applicable for this year?
-Is there an aftermarket 3" downpipe available? Or am I left to custom fabrication for this?
-Cold air intake kits? Or just snorkels? Kits available?
-How to's on water/meth, what size nozzles to use?

How good are the heaters? I live in a climate that drops to -40*C sometimes.

    Thanks guys!

re-write the post with "Canada Surfer - info required please" as the title and my guess is that one or two of the Canuks or our Colonial Cousins from south of your border will give you all the info you need.

      Hello

Experts will be along soon but I think:

      Yes they can be chipped
It has to be a custom exhaust
      Dont know
      Dont know

      I was almost helpful!

          Everyone feeling alright?

No one has asked him to use the search function yet, or the oh-so-funny LMGTFY

Come on you lot, I've come to expect more than pleasant introductions!

          @ Clys, welcome!

Aren't water/meth sprays to cool the charge?
Have you got an Intercooler fitted?
Do you have any info on potential power gains for the above? Only I get the impression the engines aren't "that" tunable?

As always I'll add a "probably" to those statements!

You will probably find some useful answers/info here:

            http://toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/performance.htm

http://monthofsaturdays.net/surf (not working right now but it may well return to life later...)

And legendgamesmaster is absolutely spot on about re-naming the title of the thread (or even posting a new thread with a similar title to the one suggested) so that it comes to the attention of the people you'd like it to.

Chips/tuners are available - I have absolutely no idea how good (or dreadful!) they are.

Custom fab exhausts are probably the way to go anyway (get a stainless steel one - fit & forget)

Intercoolers can be fitted (see the Aussie tech site above) but be wary of them becoming "interwarmers" instead! Chargecoolers are another possibility but I don't know if it'd really be worth the expense for the results. If you're talking an air temp of -40C I doubt you'll need one! lol

I would imagine that water injection (assuming thats what you mean) would be a specialist matter to take to an, erm, specialist.

            And welcome to Surfland!

-40 you say. My sack just migrated North thinking about that.

              Hello anyway

at -40 I'd suggest you dont wanna go cooling your air any more!

I'm assuming you've got a big petrol engine not a diesel? If diesel, you are wasting your time trying to get more power.

Water injection will more likely be ice ingestion.

Hey Clyson, you haven't been told to use the search function yet, because you haven't asked the same questions that get asked every day, so welcome and thank you. On your questions:

                    1. Not anything that's recognised as working. The engine's not sophisticated enough to be re-mapped so the only chips are ebay resistors that don't actually do anything. There's a thing called a Bobbox that some believe in but can't, logically, work either.

                    2. No. Custom only.

                    3. Snorkels only.

                    4. I have seen something about water injection somewhere........try the search button

Heaters are pretty good. Most have one in the back too, so it's OK back there as well. Most have an 'idle up' that will get it nice and warm quickly for you. Once you're moving, the heat shielding on the gearbox is terrible, so you'll be nice and snug.

There's no real 'scene' for any kind of engine related tuning or customisation. It tends to revolve around lifting and filling the inside up with dials, from what I've seen.

                          Wow...

I have never gotten responses in this quality and quantity on a forum before, this is excellent!

Well, it looks like I'll remove the entire exhaust, including the downpipe, cut off the piping from the flange, and get a custom tube welded on to reduce restriction, and then have a 3" straight pipe out the back. Good to know there aren't any worthwhile tuners out there...does the spill valve adjustment apply to the second gen 1KZ? Is it worth it? (don't mind losing a bit of economy for some more power). I will fit a custom liquid to air intercooler for it as well in time, and eventually a snorkel, speaking of which, how deep can you get these things before they start sucking water with the stock airbox? (I like driving in rivers).

                          Thanks again guys!

I'll also rename the title and make a note in my other thread, because I didn't know this one went though moderation already!

Yes, water/meth cool the intake charge and reduce EGT's, and are sometimes a viable alternative to intercooling. Very popular on larger diesel engines I work on in the performance segment here in Canada.
