  • Back From Cornwall And A Dilemma

What a fantastic 11 days, the weather was glorious and not one thing went wrong. 2,100 kms in total and the truck performed impeccably at a steady 70mph on the motorway.

The only thing is I now feel a little guilty now because I'm considering getting rid of the truck in favour of a 3rd gen! I'm still in two minds because I spent a lot of time and money on the truck to get it the way I want it and the thought of starting all over again on another one is a bit off putting.

    Decisions, desicions!

How old is the one you have now jim?
I ask because a stunning 2nd gen ( which is a category mine never fell into, but yours does), will, I reckon, be a sought after item presently. Keep it, no need to change for changes sake.
    Non intercooled nothing.

Complete stab in the dark here, but I reckon Jims Surf is a 95, making it about 15 years old. Probably a 3.0 SSRX. Wouldnt surprise me at all to hear that he had a BMW320d on the side too

Then it's going to start attracting the same status as 1st gen vehicles. There are those amongst us, who delight in driving a shed, that leaks and is rusted through, for the sake of a solid front axle. I'm going to get bawled at for this, but the majority of surf drivers want a little comfort, hence we don't own land rovers for instance. The fact this surf is, say , 15 years old and in fine condition, can only add to it's desireability. There isn't an endless supply of 2nd gens, and they are all starting to get on.

And this BMW 320D. Would it have a number plate relevant to it's year of manufacture/first registration/when it was imported. My newest acquisition is registered as a 'k' plate, for when it was imported in 93. It was actually manufactured in 91.

Go on you know you want one, because you,re worth it. Ive seen your pics and you have a cracking looking surf, but I dont think that mint 2nd gens are that rare, so its not going to be a collectors item in the near future. As its mint and you have no need to sell it, you can hold out for a decent price, and you will get it. You can then take your sweet time selecting an equally mint 3rd gen which if you,re lucky will need no essential work and can slowly be tinkered with till you get it where you want. Only you can decide, but if these thoughts are in your head now, odds are that you,ll be listening to the hairdresser jibes soon.

Yeah, 15 years old, 96,000 kms (60,000 miles approx). Timing belt and associated belts done at 91,500. Most of you will know that I've looked after it well and spent money when neeeded to keep it in good nick. I won't go on as it will start to looked like a for sale ad, which it isn't as I'm still undecided.

The thing is I've poured a lot of money into the truck, which I greatly doubt I would come anywhere near to recouping when I do come to sell, but that's not a huge concern as I've enjoyed every minute of making the truck look how I want it.

Still, the 3rd gen does hold a great attraction, I'd really like one that looks like Bogus's (sorry if there shouldn't be an apostrophe Andy) truck, with that square roof spoiler and rear mounted spare.

Here you go mate, but I must add that it isn't for sale yet. Should I decide that it is to go I will be putting it in the 'For Sale' section on here.

                        keep it mate!

                        its a beaut.

as a 2nd and 3rd gen owner, i much prefer the look of the 2nd gen over the 3rd, but teh power of teh 3rd (my 2nd is a 2.4 though)

test a 3rd gen, see if its any better, but i'd say your 2nd is a bl88dy fine truck, and you'd miss it!

That's an awesome truck man. No wonder you are proud of it. I am after a 3rd Gen myself but a 2nd Gen finished like yours would sway me no problem. I'll keep an eye on that 'For Sale' section

Well both my 2nd gen and 3rd gen are up for grabs.
But I am a little North for most on here

                            yoshie bids gladly considered. {Graham will explain if you don't know}
