  • Had a phone call last night

From the guy who bought a 2.4 off of me last week.
He says the truck is dead.It wont fire up and it tokk about half hour thursday evening to start it.
I have now got to go and see what the problem is.He has had the truck for just over a week and its been ok.I'll check the batteries as thats what i think may be the cause although they were new last year the truck was sat for a few months not doing anything until i bough it.I'll check the primer and the only other thing would be the glow plugs.
I could do without this today as i feel like cr ap and got to travel up to collect Lucifer tonight aswell

Bummer mate, wonder if some cr@ps gone through as it was standing for a while,
they sorted my sons defender, turned out to be the lift pump (dont believe surfs have em tho) and three burnt out glow plugs,
Too young to die and too old to give a toss

the glow plugs were all done fron Diesel Bob.I changed all the filters and oil before i delivered the truck on the 8th.i'm wondering if the primer has gone and this is why he can't get it started.

Just been to have a look at this truck. It took ages to jump start, the primer is ok so we took it up to ATS who checked the batteries and they are holding charge.Their tester for checking the charge was knackered so we went round the corner to another place where they tested the charge and its staying at 13v and no charge. The guy said he is 99.9% certain the alternator has gone.
I have now offered to swap the alternator for the guy who bought the surf from me free of charge.I know some will say he bought the truck as seen but i'm one of these that would sooner repair it free and then get custom from them at a later date.
Wednesday next week he will bring the truck up for the alternators to be swapped

          Alternator belts tight?

          Both batteries in good health?

Did they test for any drain on the battery/ies with engine switched off?

Dash lights all go out at start-up?

When you say it took a long time to jump start, was the engine turning over quickly?

            hi rich
TBH i would have done the same in certain circumstances, since its only been a week then fair enough if however a month or six weeks went by then i would have charged for the alternater but fitted it for nowt
it takes a long time to get a trusted name but it takes minutes to lose it,,,,

Yea the batteries were new last october and the guy sais they seem to be fine.He tested the batteries with the engine off aswell and thats when he said they were holding what charge was in there.
All the dash lights go out and the battery light don't even flicker or anything.
The guy who tested for the alternator said if the truck was being used mainly at night then with the lights etc on then there won't be enough charge getting to the batteries.
It started off by the starter just clicking by lack of power but once the truck was started or got enough power in the batteries from the jump start his truck started ok, after a little cranking over but it just took a while to get enough charge in.
I'll check the belts anyway and make sure they are tight enough when i swap the alternator

My 2.4 was sat for a while. The guy who bought it drove it fine for about a week, and then the check engine light came on and he lost all power. Sometimes it was really difficult to start, he said.
He told me he filled the tank up with decent Diesel and blew the fuel lines (not sure how) and there hasn't been any further problems.
                Oh Nana, what's my name?

Didn't your 3rd gen come from up that way too?

I know it's not exactly on your route, but you're welcome to stop off here on your way home. (You don't have to pay to get out of wales)

I had another phone call today from the guy who bought this 2.4.
He is now saying that he is having trouble starting it and the rac have said its the starter motor.I think he is expecting me to repair the truck free of charge again.Yea right. He's had the truck about 8 weeks or so now.He said it took him 12 hours to drive back from Wales last weekend as when he got to 50mph the turbo light went out and engine management light kept coming on.
                              He's not a happy chappy.
He bought a good running truck and it was sold as seen.I did the decent thing and replaced the alternator free of charge already. How much more does he expect me to do free for him for gods sake.
I think most people would of told him where to go by now
