  • Front pads again

    Hi folks

heard a bit of a rubbing sound from the wheels the last couple of days so tools out again. Was a bit miffed to find the pads nearly to the metal after only 2 years, bought from Milners and have made a right mess of the wheels for the period they've been on, stopped the truck fine just $hit pads and I'm not heavy on the brakes either. Anyone recommend good uns with part numbers or is it Toyota from RT or head office, cos my local dealer seems to stock sweet fanny adams. H

Have they not got the little metal brackets which make a horrific noise when they touch the disc? Stops the pad from wearing too far and scoring the disc.
Mine have, and look nearly as good as new, but they were on it when i bought the truck.

My Toyota pads are half worn after 1 year and it's not my daily driver. I guess a 2 ton automatic just eats pads.

      Cheers,
      Rob.

I mustn't have let them wear that far as no real "noise", but yes it has like a spring/clip thing that sits central over the disc. H

That's the pad retaining clip, not the wear indicator. Cheap pads tend not to have wear indicators fitted.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

I've had cars & bikes fail before the pads, I'm really not a braker unless its absolutely necessary I'd rather avoid something than stop for it, too many bike miles under the belt and not the posing #### one's either. H

Oh well just cheap pads then, so wrong clip I'm on about, they'll be changed as soon as I CAN GET A PART NO. I can use at the shop, EBC/FERODO/SIMILAR for gen 2 KZN130. cheers H.

similar issue to mine, doesn;t seem to matter which type of front pads I buy (standard grade) they don't last much beyond 2 years.

I've had pads from roughtrax, milners & Toyota and wear rate is roughtly the same.

Latest set on mine are ferodo and got them from local "bullseye" motor factors. been on nearly a year and already getting towards half worn

I suppose with a 2 ton truck, with rear drums and an auto box, front pads are never going to last long

Discs are different though, changed mine 3 years ago (think they were the originals) and still smooth as baby's bum

I tow a fair bit with my Surf and always factor a set of pads into the yearly running costs and as Milners are half the price of Mintex brake as well and make far less brake dust its Milners for me.
In fact before ESVA and IVA when brake balance was checked on SVA down at the Import centre in Southampton the brakes had to be warmed up a lot before testing and we tested many makes of pads and Milners were the best followed by Mintex the worst were EBC green kevlar pads they actually melted a set warming them up.

Roughtrax list the same part numbers for the 2.4l and the 3.0l front pads so i would assume you are right in thinking the stickies part numbers would be the same for a 3.0l as the listed 2.4l.

Have to agree with Steve too. The pads from Milners are fine and two years use is pretty good, especially for the price. I have spent hundreds on pads for my track cars, and when some have only lasted 10 laps - and catch fire - then even I get upset

                        Cheers, Nick

sorry, don't have a toyota part number, just rang parts dept and quoted reg number - they were in a toyota box when they arrived.

Truck tows brill, done some quite steep long inclines and althogh temp gauge does move, it never goes just above halfway - still check expansion bottle all the time but well happy (should be for teh price). Tows like a train even with the bigger 265/75 R16 Insa Turbo Sahara's on.

Left the additional ATF cooler on and did the viscious fan re-fill as well

Although I was initially thinking of trading it in for a series 80 VX landcruiser i'm statting to like her again

                            EBC green pads : DP6992
                            EBC normal pads : UD502

Any decent motor factor will be able to look up the correct pads. Look for one that does mainly trade work on an industrial estate, not a high street 'speakers and fluffy dice' motorworld type place.

                            Cheers,

When I bought my truck almost a couple of months ago there was a judder on the front, still there after a good clean of both brakes and discs. Decided as a last resort to change the discs and pads though neither looked worn. Got a few outrageous quotes from a few motor factors then rang Milners. I popped round and they provided exactly what was needed for £75 inc VAT! Problem solved.
